Card misplaced, activated late, Chase denies bonus.
Readers please watch out on this :-
I was targeted and then approved of a Marriott Reward card from Chase. The first card was sent to me in April( I think) but it was misplaced and so I did not activate the card.
I then, applied for the same card but was told I could not have 2 of the same card. And I was told to activate the card and then qualify for the 70000 Marriott points that was promoted to me.
So in June I activated the first card, and In July spent $1200 which qualifies me for the 70000 Marriott points.
However, Mr. M...P...of the San Antonio Chase bank defended denying me the 70000 points saying that I had the card in April and 3 months had passed when I used the card for $1200. Therefore I did not qualify for the 70000points.
But, to me, and to the other Chase representative when I called to ask about the denial of my 2nd Marriott/Chase card, I still got 3 months to charge up to $1000 to get the 70000 points.
I felt Chase bank has misled me to deny me of their offer.
Is there anyone out there with similar experience?
Any way to appeal to get my 70000 marriott rewards?
thanks for reading

I would call the Chase Customer Service and tell them you are thinking of canceling and that if they want to keep you as a customer they must give you the points owed to you. If your card was lost and you reported as such then you followed the cardmember rules. Then you spent the required amount in July they should post the points. Tell the Chase customer retention specialist that they have three options one credit you the points two refund the money you spent on the card or thirdly transfer the spent amount and have it reflect on the new card to get the points.
Hope it works out and please keep us informed.

Welcome to FT;
It is well-known around here that the clock for the bonus begins the day you are approved, regardless if you ever activate the card or use it.
Whether it is fair or not that another rep told you otherwise is a matter of debate. But it should be noted that Chase is acting consistently with its history in how the clock runs.

I would call and try to talk Chase into the points, but I do not think the title is an accurate description. You misplaced the card and did not meet their terms and are mad at them because of your mistake. Good luck, but get a system down for your cards so this does not happen again

Since it is your mistake, and if you want those points, then send a secure message to Chase, and request them for one time exception for your situation, and explain them what happened exactly and tell them that it was just a mistake.

Consider it a lesson learned. You shouldn't apply for a card and then not even bother to activate it and use it and then expect to get the sign up bonus five months later. Why would you re-apply for a credit card that you hadn't even activated the previous time? This is just poor credit card management. I have no sympathy.

Like Mdtr said this is how it's always been with CC applications. Chase is just following the rules set up when you applied.
Also like fl9999 said admitt you made a mistake and SM Chase asking for a exception and plead ignorrance. Assure them it won't happen again and please make a exception. Like sexyturtle said know the rules.
Otherwise there is no help when they follow the rules you agreed to in the application?
Like others said the title is misleading and you seem to want to blame them for your mistake. I have the Marriot card and I wouldn't give it up. 70,000 points when I signed up and free night that saves me $150 minus the yearly fee. I consider it in the top 10 cards because I stay at Marriot 15-20 nights a year.

Agree with all the above. I was approved for a Chase United card in late August. From past experience, I knew it would arrive mid-September. I knew I wouldn't be home this weekend to activate it, so 2 to 3 weeks later, and asked if it was going to be a problem if I missed activating it within 30 days. They said no problem with that but the time limit for meeting the spend started the day of approval. Not a problem for me as I still have plenty of time but they are very strict on 3 months from the date of approval, not the date the card is received or activated.
