What's the spending requirement for the sapphire preferred mastercard? I applied it through creditcards.com when the offer was still 40k, but it lowered to 10k after $500 spending. I can't remember if the original offer was for $3,000 or $5,000, does anyone know? Thanks.

Since this thread is here, I'll throw this in:
Applied for the CSP MC in 10/12 and immediately converted to Visa upon receipt of the card. If I want to receive a second bonus, do I apply for a MC or Visa next time? I've never technically applied for a Visa version. By the time I finished the spend, the MC was cancelled. |

Since you've never received a bonus for a Visa app, that may be the one to apply for, though I am really just guessing. Your conversion may have knocked you out of a Visa bonus altogether. |
What's the shortest time anyone has waited between canceling Visa CSP and applying for MC CSP? My annual fee is due this month, so I was thinking of downgrading to Freedom, waiting a month, and then applying for MC CSP. The timing is important because I have an upcoming international trip and I'd really like to use the CSP, but I also don't want to pay the fee on my current card. If a month is too short, I could just use another card overseas and try for the MC CSP later.

Does anyone know about the Purchase Protection on the CSP MC? On the MC page: http://worldcard.mastercard.com/cont...rotection.html it says World MCs get $3000 max/claim. If you have Visa Siggy then its $500 max/claim. Anyone have datapoints on this? Then in theory I would want to keep the MC version, yeah?

I applied for the MC and immediately realized I should have applied for the Visa because of better benefits. At that time, I intended to keep the card for a while. This was before I had heard of churning. I guess I can experiment for the good of the community...

Which better benefits? Certainly not the Purchase protection..
I don't recall what the benefits were and I'm guessing I've never used them. But, that was my thought process at the time. On a side note, MC has better coverage per incident, but Visa has a higher annual limit for purchase protection. |

IME, the MC would benefit me much more because if I break anything expensive, it's usually >$500 and it only really happens every 1-3 years. Visa Siggy's $500 per claim seems so little when MC's has a $3000 per claim. Also, each of Chase's United cards are $10,000 per claim but are Visa Siggy's, don't know how that works. |
I went back and looked at the benefits booklet -
It's $500 per claim for purchase protection, but $10,000 per claim under the extended warranty section. Maybe that's the difference. |
