How to keep UR points?

Right now only Chase UR card between me/wife is her Chase Sapphire.

I've had my Sapphire and cancelled earlier in year
Had freedom cancelled earlier in year

She needs to cancel the sapphire in 2 months to avoid annual fee. what are options to keep the UR points? She called today and CS says you lose the points if you cancel your card today.

Is one way for her to apply for a Chase Freedom card? any other way without having another chase card?

Thanks!

Transfer them to a travel partner or redeem them.

No, you need a sapphire or ink card to retain them. Freedom does not keep them, it can only contribute to them.

I thought the points between Sapphire and Freedom can be combined? I was able to move all my points from my regular Sapphire card into my Freedom account without any issues. I actually did this for a couple of other people in the family as well in the UR site. It's on the left hand side once you are in the UR Mall. I think it says manage account and then you can click on the link to combine points.

Yes. Having a Chase Freedom will allow you to keep your UR points. But you will only be able to redeem those points for cash, not transfer them to partners like United, Hyatt, etc.

Out of curiosity, why did you cancel your Freedom earlier this year? It's an awesome no-fee card.

This is correct. You can combine the points from all your UR accounts into a single UR account.

Why not downgrade to the fee less regular Sapphire card?

Mindray Oct 24, 2012 3:22 pm

Yeah no reason to cancel a Chase Freedom card...no annual fee and 5% cash back.

hoping to churn in 2 years. plus one less chase card as i had 4..

if freedom can HOLD the points, she'll get a INK later then... any UR bonus for freedom these days?

Eh. The bonus on the Freedom isn't why you get it. And waiting two years to try and churn it then is a poor strategy--if you have it linked with your bank account for the Chase Exclusives, the points you'd have earned in the 2 years on spending with it would well outstrip any bonus in most cases.

I forget what the current bonus is...maybe 20 or 30k points? Just do a little investigating.

I don't remember seeing Chase's clock reset at 2 years, so you will not likely get bonus even after 2 years and it's only at 10k now anyway

Dude, not to be snarky, but you've been here since 2010 and have a post count much larger than mine. You don't know about the Chase Freedom Exclusives program of linking your Chase Freedom credit card to your Chase bank account? And can't Google the info?

Alright...here is the basic Chase link. Just scroll over the Chase Freedom: https://www.chase.com/index.jsp?pg_n...clusives_offer

There is a ton more info on a ton of other threads on here and elsewhere, or on a dozen other blogs...

just not too familiar with chase UR related cards.. appreciate the link.

Why would you cancel the Chase Freedom? No annual fee, quarterly bonuses, Chase Exclusive program... plus it builds up your credit history for no cost.
