Chase Ink cards 5x Internet Services Coding Experiences?
 
Chase web site states: Earn 5X points per $1 on the first $50,000 spent annually at office supply stores, and on cellular phone, landline, internet, and cable TV services.

(I know in the terms of service they mention it must be coded correctly).

Obviously Chase has the coding correct for common residental providers such as Comcast, TW, Verizon, but does anyone have experience with commercial Internet service providers?

I have a $17k / month Level 3 bill that I put on my Amex card. Amex codes it as: Category: Communications - Other Telecom

I do not have a Chase Bold card yet, but I figure if this will get coded as Internet services with Chase then it would be a no brainer to sign up and max out the $50k every year.

Just looking to hear from others who use "less common" telecommunications providers, specifically commercial ones, what your experiences have been.

Don't know the answer, but since your monthly bill is so big, you'd max out Ink Bold in 3 months anyway.

You'll never know for sure in advance no matter what they tell you, so do a test: put maybe $2000 on the Ink Bold one month and see.

I agree the only way to know for sure is to test.

However, as I mentioned, I do NOT have the card and was wondering based on other people's experiences what they have seen so that I can decide if I should apply for it or not.

Chances are unless you post the actual company and someone else here happens to use it we won't be able to tell you for sure. Amex and visa will possibly have different codes, but hopefully you can argue to chase it falls under that category in the case that it doesn't automatically hit the right category.

Good news is either way you'll get the 25,000 points sign up and the 25,000 points for spending over 10k with that one spend. So either way try it out and get 50,000 points. That's still about 3.4x UR points.

I think the risk is worth the possibility to get 17k*5=85,000. Could get 135,000 points in one shot! It's fee free for a year, so try it and cancel just before the years up if it doesn't work and they aren't willing to re-code it for you.

Hi all, older thread I know but I've searched and can't find this topic anywhere else.

Just got the Ink Preferred and am in a similar position as OP with some significant monthly spend with Level 3 as well as a couple of other commercial telecom providers.

AMEX is still coding as Communications - Other Telecom and Business Services - Professional Services and Merchandise & Supplies - Computer Supplies respectively.

Is the best course of action still to call Chase after the fact and work on getting things coded properly?

Getting Chase to code things "properly" is basically up to how the CSR you contact feels that day.

As far as I know, only a telecoms coding will get you the 5x/3x. They won't give you the bonus for professional services. Not sure about computer supplies.

Also note that Amex coding and Visa coding could be completely different for the same merchant.
