Any advice? Gotchas? My concern is that there is only 1 daily non-stop and if it doesn't go, well, we could get stuck. BA Avios can be redeemed on AS, but only when low-tier award seats are available. (If an AS award seat is available on aa.com, you should also be able to book it with BA Avios.) Is flying out of SJC an option? Both HA and WN fly SJC-HNL. |

Have you checked cash fares?

Thank you. Yes, I've checked the fares and am actually trying to burn some of my points. The HA fares are near $400, plus the comfort seat fee. I can't fly out of SJC, I need SFO, with LAX a second choice.

From LAX, there's a lot more competition to HNL. AA, AS, and WN all ply that route (in addition to UA). If you can find "SAAver" award seats at aa.com on either AA or AS metal, redeeming BA Avios for those flights would likely be your best bet. Chase UR points -- if you hold a qualifying Chase card -- can also be transferred to WN.

JetBlue is also a Chase UR transfer partner; JetBlue points can be redeemed for (capacity-controlled) award seats on HA. But redeeming BA Avios on AS, if available, would be the better deal.

You would need to redeem about 26,667 points to buy a $400 ticket through the Chase Travel portal. How does that compare to the number of points you would need to transfer for an award ticket?

Something I've always wondered is why someone would take a pet along on a trip to someplace? Wouldn't it be a lot easier to leave the pet home? Just curious. Thanks |
