I opened my account over the weekend. I was able to successfully lower my credit limit to $1000 today.

I got my SM response this morning. The clawback of $150 was because apparently I had already redeemed the full $300 allowance earlier in the year. Oops
In my defense (or defense of my ego at least), I could not retrieve my online statements that far back and had SM'd Chase asking how much remaining credit I had - they responded that I had $150 left, which is what I relied on. C'est la vie.
@hiima, in response to how I had bag fees for $78, it was a trip from DFW-CUN. In DFW, the kiosk charged me $75 for 3 bags, but in CUN they charged me $78 for 3 bags. Not sure if the baggage charges are taxed out of Mexico or what.

I am hopeful after reading the past few pages of posts that it is possible to keep the low credit limit for the first year to avoid the fee. I am reading about people who cycle the low limit multiple times during a billing period having their credit limits raised. But for those of us who do not MS, and do not need to charge more than the credit limit per month, maybe we can still take advantage of the loophole.

I'm seeing a lot of people saying that gcs aren't being reimbursed, which is a part of their t & c. I've been 100% on airline award fees. So that's what I'll be using it on next year, that and upgrade coupons for AA.

Travel Credit
I didn't use the credit last year, and was determined to find some practical use this year.
Yet, my flights this year were in J, or my employer paid, or a credit card or the ticket itself covered any incidentals. So where to turn? This credit, though generous sounding, is not that useful (at least to me).
Lounge memberships are covered, and I looked at the offerings from airlines I might use - AA, AS, UA, and AC. It looks like the Air Canada Maple Leaf Club "North America Plus" will get me into 16 AC lounges in Canada and and 44 UA lounges in the US. The price is C$495, which is $US355. With $300 covered, $55 seems okay for a year's dual UA/AC lounge access. Hope this works out...

I wonder if you can use this trick to increase your CL on other Chase cards without a hard pull (move CL from Ritz to another Chase card, have your CL increased automatically on your Ritz card, rinse and repeat).

This is what happened to me. I brought down my Ritz CL by moving it to another card do my total credit actual increased when they bumped it back up. I wouldn't do it over and over though, that just seems like a way to raise flags on your account.
