Actual T&C language, as of 08.22.15:"Only the following types of non-ticket Net Purchases qualify for this offer: airline lounge day pass, or towards a yearly lounge membership of your choice; airline seat upgrades; airline baggage fees; in-flight internet/entertainment; in-flight meals; Global Entry fees."

As of 1/2/2015, Credit for these charges are based on TRANSACTION (purchase) date, not posting date. If you made an eligible purchase before the end of the year, even if it doesn't post until the following year, you can still receive credit for the previous year. See post #1268

DO NOT attempt to get all $300 in one transaction. Most CSRs will question what incedential charge would be so high. Instead, get multiple smaller gift cards which line up with fees that airline charges. Make sure that whatever amounts you choose, you have an explanation ready for each. For example, AA overweight baggage fee is $150. $50 is first checked bag for 2 ppl. $75 is in the range of upgrade fees, etc.

The deal for 140K points is dead. Chase has replaced it with a complimentary night stay at any Tier 1-4 Ritz-Carlton hotel after spending $2,000 in the first 3 months, available here. As of February 12, 2015, there IS A BETTER known public offer (see below).

The 70K offer is long gone.

Many have applied through this link only to find the application was assigned to a different promo for 2 free nights instead of points. Calling JP Morgan Chase CS has indicated they are aware of this issue and CSRs are expecting the 140k points to be honored but no one in this situation has actually received the 140k points as of Dec 28, 2014.

I believe it gets attached to your reservation and should just come off of the bill from the hotel.

In order for the 100$ to be applied to your reservation, you must call Ritz Carlton reservations.

You have to request it ahead of time via the reservation line.

I haven't actually used it yet since my stay isn't till June, but it's part of your reservation rate. It shows up on your reservation online with or without the club level upgrade, so I would think it is a function like other hotel promo rates that include breakfast/wine/dinner for free and gets put on your hotel bill if anything, rather than your card.

This was a big value for me too since I did a similar thing and booked a couple nights for the weekend at battery park with the club level upgrade and the credit while on a business trip.

When I applied for this Ritz Carlton card I used my Marriott Rewards number. Three separate "club upgrade" awards are now listed in my Marriott account. When I inquired about how to use them (at booking, or post booking) Marriott informed me that they cannot be used at Marriotts, only at Ritz-Carltons.

If this is the case, then the awards should be clearly labeled as "Ritz Carlton club upgrades" and should not be in my Marriott account at all. (Since the offer I applied for is no longer available, I do not have access to whatever might have been explained in the T&Cs.)

Is this really the case (that the upgrade awards cannot be used at Marriotts - and maybe the $100 hotel credit cannot be used at Marriotts either) or is the agent incorrect?

Here are the terms;

Upgrade to The Ritz-Carlton Club® Level:
Club Level offer valid at participating hotels on up to three paid stays per Account Year using The Ritz-Carlton Rewards Credit Card with a seven-night maximum length of stay, subject to availability at time of reservation. (“Account Year” means the year beginning with your account open date through the first statement after the anniversary of your account open date, and each twelve billing cycles thereafter.) E-Certificate is required, is non-transferable, and not combinable with other offers. Club Level Upgrade e-certificates are valid for 1 room per e-certificate. Not valid on corporate or other promotional rates. Chase Bank USA, N.A. is not responsible for offer fulfillment or the provision of or a failure to provide the stated benefits and services.

I figured it must be somewhere in the T&C, which I did not have access to. It's unfortunate that the upgrade awards are not clearly marked as "Ritz Carlton hotel upgrades" in Marriott member accounts.

That's probably because Marriott doesn't have a ubiquitous "Club Level", only Ritz-Carlton does. But the club level probably wouldn't do anything at a Marriott since if you are gold, you can get free room upgrades (at Brooklyn Bridge Marriott, 1 up from basic guest room is skyline view, 2 up is concierge level room, which I don't even know if the room is different other than concierge lounge access) and you get access to the concierge/club lounge anyways.

I'm more upset that we don't get the $100 hotel credit at Marriott than the inability to use club level upgrades.

just a warning, based off my recent experience trying to take advantage of the hotel credit and club level upgrade for Ritz Carlton hotels, it is best to call the ritz carlton reservation line to verify the following two things:

1. Hotel "blackout" room types for club upgrades and hotel credit: depending on the room you book before you try to apply your upgrade, your room type may not have an equivalent room type on the club level. for example, i tried to book a no-view room at a ritz location, but when i called in to apply a club certificate, they stated that i couldn't, because there are no "no-view" rooms at club level. Moreover, the "no-view" rooms were also not eligible for the $100 hotel credit. you can check the latter yourself before calling by using the booking code "ZR4."

2. Club "blackout" days: some hotels close down their club levels while transitioning between seasons (mostly seasonal hotels, like those located at ski resorts). the hotel information site for each specific location is rarely up to date, and may be closed for the days that you're there. when i checked the location i planned to visit, there was no indication that the club level would be closed, aside from a closure date back in late 2014. however, when i called, i was told that the club level is planning to be closed starting one month before my stay, through one month after my stay. even the rep helping me on the phone had to play with dates on his booking system to figure out the general dates that the specific location's club level would be closed.

so while i thought i got a decent rate for a RC room, i got rejected twice for both types of benefits that come with having the RC credit card.

A few data points for anyone interested in the $300 credit:

1/15 - $81.20 in AA award fees and taxes, reimbursed by secure message
2/15 - $100 in Delta Gift Card, sent secure message and got a reply that they would need additional information, next called the line to speak with someone and ask them to apply the credit and they said they'd look into it, and said you already sent a secure message and we have already applied the credit, a day later posted to my account
2/15 - $125 in Air Canada gift card, reimbursed by secure message

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm starting to feel a bout of buyers remorse when it comes to this card. I didn't expect to have to jump through so many hoops to use the benefits that lured me to apply for the card in the first place.
