Old Chase Points?
Hello, please forgive me if this is the wrong thread for this, but I'm not sure where to post it.
My dad got a Chase card a few years back and has been earning points on it ever since. We are about to take a trip now, and I just assumed that the points he has been accruing have been the ultimate reward points, but he is telling me they arent. He has around 200K points, but says he cant use them for airfare, only hotel stays and cashback. Do you know what type of points these would be? Also, would they be worth using for a hotel stay if possible, or is cash just the best option? |

Several Chase cards accrue Ultimate Rewards Points, but only someone with a Chase Sapphire Preferred card or Ink Bold Card can transfer the points to airline miles and hotel loyalty accounts, or book airfare with a 25% bonus through their travel portal. Does he have a Freedom card or a regular Chase Sapphire card?
If your father were to open a Chase Sapphire Preferred card he could then combine points between the two accounts and would have more flexibility in redeeming them. There is a menu option within the Ultimate Rewards website allowing you to transfer points between accounts (you can transfer points between different people with Chase cards; I don't know if points are automatically combined between one person's multiple accounts or whether it would have to be done manually). As soon as he had the proper type of account open, he could book travel. Or you could open a Chase Sapphire Preferred card, he could transfer his points to you, and you could help redeem them. Don't try to convert his credit card into a different account type because then he would miss out on the 50,000 point bonus for opening a new Chase Sapphire Preferred account and spending $3,000. He may not need the bonus to book a vacation now, but it could help with his next vacation. What kind of vacation would your father like to take? |
I will have to have him check his points now because he just signed up for a sapphire preferred card and met the spend. That would be awesome of he could get the points to ultimate rewards. We have our flights booked for our trip already using my ff miles. Still loking for hotel options though. we will be staying in honolulu, maybe I will see about redeeming some of his points for a hotel there.
