Just realized a family member's card is still Visa and hasn't been switched yet. They sent a mailer it will be by Sept 6.. Thinking of canceling it (just opened in March) and re-applying later for MC. Anyone else still Visa?

I still have the Visa. I got it through a link on this board after links for the MC were already up. I also got the letter stating it would be converted by September 6 via snail mail.

The account has not been open long, only about 120 days. Now I have to decide whether to close it. I need to decide very soon to avoid conversion to MC. I don't like closing accounts less than 6 months old. I think if I close this card I need to lay low with Chase and not apply for anything else with them this year.

Any reports of taking back bonus points on this card if closed less than 6 months after the account was opened?

Thanks.

I used the link in the 80k Wiki

Chases reply to my SM confirming 80K

Our records indicate, the enrollment bonus you enrolled
with allows you to earn 80,000 points after the first
$1,000 in spending within the first 3 months the account
is open. After qualifying, please allow six to eight weeks
for the enrollment bonus points to post to the account.

Please keep in mind that all enrollment incentives are
reserved for new IHG® Rewards Club credit card members
only. This means we reserve the right to withhold adding
any enrollment points if you have previously received them
on the same product on a previous date.
Can I get this card and bonus if I've had the free PC Visa for years and they just sent me a new MC? I never ever use the card and have only kept it because every so often when I've called to cancel they offer me a few thousand to keep it.

Can I just keep it and apply for the Select card also, or should I cancel my old one, or upgrade to the Select when I call to cancel? Or am I just out of luck here?

Do you have other cards with Chase that you are holding on for long periods of time, and that you are actively putting spend on it? If you have a solid relationship with Chase, they will still want you as a customer. If you don't have any relationship with Chase, they may be more concerned.

I just got approved for the MC version using the link. I'm shocked since I already have four other Chase cards, two of which are never even used lol. Just sent a SM to see if I'll get the 80k points.

I'm in the same situation as Jeanie, sanjunk and Frudd... have a fairly new model Visa, just got the letter that my replacement MC will arrive by Sept 6. Thinking I'll cancel and reapply at a later date.

How long after approval can you usually use your annual free night?

Roughly one year, since the free-night benefit is issued on the account anniversary. For more, see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/inter...t-pc-visa.html

I got the 80k bonus offer July 7 2014

I signed up using the wiki link Monday night July 7. I clicked on the link and even though the application made no mention of any bonus, I called chase tonight 7/8/14 and they confirmed I will have a bonus of 80,000 points after spending $1000 in the first 3 months. That's worth about $200 or so in gift cards (they have a good selection- amazon, and several nice restaurants like outback, applebees etc and a few gas cards. Worth more obviously if used for hotel stays. The gift card denominations are 11,000 pts for $25, 20,000 points for$50 card, 38,000 points for $100 card, and 74,000 for $200 gift card. You get the most value getting a $200 gift card

For 80,000 pts, You can book 4 nights in Crown Plaza in Hong Kong, valued over $600 dollars. That's worth quite a bit more than $200 in GCs.

Never use your points on gift cards. Horrible value. But clearly you got a hotel credit card which you never intend to use. Why not get a different credit card with a better signup bonus?
