Notifying Chase/Citi of large purchases
Does anyone know who to contact at these companies if I plan to make a large purchase with my card? I'm getting ready to buy a new car and the dealership allows 10% payment with CC. Only problem is whenever I make a large purchase with these cards, it always gets declined. I just want to prevent it from being declined. I specifically called Citi last time and told a representative about the upcoming large purchase and I was told she noted it in the account and it should go through. Next thing I know, the card is declined.
Any information including which department to contact (I'm assuming fraud department) and telephone numbers would be much appreciated. Thanks |
If you call when it's declined, you should be able to speak to someone in their fraud department to immediately resolve the problem. They'll ask you a few questions for security purposes, and then make sure the account is flagged so that your purchase will go through. Probably best to sit on the phone with them while it goes through that second time, just to make sure there are no issues.

Chase has an automated system if you call the Customer Service on the back of the card. I believe its option #4 or# 5, and includes notifying for both travel and large purchases.
It asks for the exact amount that will be charged in dollars and cents |
