Anyone had luck increasing credit limit on a Chase card?
I have an Amtrak card branded by Chase . My credit limit was cut to a measly $1700 when the financial crisis started last year. Has anyone had success getting it increased? I would rather not waste a hard inquiry if the answer will be no.

I have 3 Chase cards, all acquired after the financial crisis started. The limit on one has stayed the same ($5000) but I hardly use it. The limit on the second has been increased twice without my asking for it (from $2500 to $5000 and then to $7500), and the third was assigned with a $20,000 limit (which I don't really want).
What's your spending pattern like? I pay off my cards in full every month and with the 2nd card, in several months when the limit was lower, I came close to the limit in a couple of months, paid it down mid-month and used it again. The increase in the limit followed about a month later.

Chase (USA) has been very stingy lately, and they admit that much of it had to do with uncertainty surrounding the new "CARD" laws passed.
I haven't had any credit limits decreased, but I also haven't had any increases like they usually give each year. In reality, I hope to never have to spend up to my limits of $17,700 and $24,000.
However, my Bank of America card limit was barely active and it dropped from $20,500 to $5000. This actually hurt my credit score a little bit.
My Discover card (I got it in college), was also rarely used, and they dropped the limit to from $10,000 to $500. I immediately called to cancel it, as I had no use for this card to begin with, and now it was truly worthless.
One thing that Chase did do though: I was enjoying an awesome "1.9% for the life of the loan" which I used to pay off my car loan years ago. They increased my minimum payment from $180 a month to $500 a month. Apparently they gave too good a deal and are now regretting it.

All really depends on your overall debt picture. If you're carrying less debt than when they cut your line, they'll likely give you an increase.
It will cost you a hard pull on your credit report to find out. If you think your situation is improved, call and ask.

How much do you need on this card, though? They seem to now take how you've used that card in the past as a factor in "you don't seem to need more credit than this". I just had limits cut a couple weeks ago from about 30k to 2.5k on one card and over 15k to 2.5k on the Amtrak. It was probably related to me applying for the BA 100k offer, and I may or may not yet get the BA card (they're extremely slow about acceptance/rejection notifications on this card), but even if I do get I kinda doubt they'll give me anything close to the sum total they took away.
Neither of these cards were getting more than a few hundred dollars a month, and each paid off in full every month, and so I still have a "low utilization ratio" with Chase even after this cutback. What I don't have any more is the ability to use the BT they offered me weeks before that, but I think that's the point, they wanted to make it high enough that I could do all the purchases I need to do with plenty margin while make it low enough to discourage me from doing BTs.

I had 25K limits on all my Chase cards(4) until recently, when I applied for one of the new UA cards.
The same day I applied,I canceled an old UA card so I was down to 3 at the time underwriting reviewed my application.
Without notice they lowered my limits on the existing cards to 15K each and gave me the UA with a 10k limit.

I have two UA cards with credit limits in the $20k~$30k range...I applied for them while I was in college and got the limits up by requesting increases every few months. However my periodic request for increase was rejected this year for the first time. So, may be due to the economy, or maybe I've exhausted Chase's risk tolerance. But luckily I have not had any limits reduced yet.
