Sorry for what I'm sure is a dumb question, and for showing that I'm too lazy to search through this massive thread...
I'm assuming that this BA Visa promotion has expired, correct? Or can I still sign up and take advantage of the massive bonuses?
thanks!

No need to search. It says in the very first post in this thread that the deal was dead in January of 2010. That is nearly a year ago!

Not too lazy to clutter it up even more for the next person though. Well done!

I check in on this thread infrequently but it seems that most of the postings have been about when you can drop it and if they will try to keep you.
So let me be the lone voice in the wilderness. My wife and I each got the card (separate accounts) a bit more than a year ago. We each hit the $30,000 spend thanks to using it in my office. I hit it first and booked 2 First Class tickets New York to Tel Aviv. Still figuring what to do with hers. And you can be certain that we'll make sure to hit the $30,000 next year on at least one of the cards and then switching back to hotel cards for free nights.
While some of BA's redemptions can be steep, many are a decent deal compared to other airlines, especially with the 1.25 miles per dollar. I have no intentions of quitting this card at this time! Still can't believe the initial offer and thrilled that FT turned me on to it.

5k bonus miles posted, ?for emails?
This card is the embodiment of the 'Jam of the Month Club', it just keeps giving the whole year 'round!
On my Dec statement I received 5k bonus miles. In my card spreadsheet I noted "5k emails", and I did sign up for a 2k/month spend oct-nov-dec/get 5k bonus miles... though I haven't breached 2k in Dec yet. Now I can't figure out what this bonus is for, as I couldn't find a mailer for an email offer...
Anyone remember a bonus for signing up for emails or something similar?
-Nevermind, looks like it was an email... happy it posted! Now for the 5k spend bonus...

Canceling the card
Sorry if this had been answered before -
My wife called to cancel her card and the rep was very rude asking her bluntly "did you get the card just for the bonus miles?"
Has anyone had similar experiences?
We haven't used the miles yet, do they have a way to charge back the bonus miles? (the bonus miles posted around april)

If you want to just cancel it, do it through an online message. Takes less than a minute.

As long as it has been 6 months since you got the card, they can not take away the miles.

"As long as it has been 6 months since you got the card, they can not take away the miles."
I have heard this 6-month rule cited many times, but I cannot find the source for this statement. Can someone refer me to the Terms & Conditions where this is stated, or is this just a myth?
I can't find it anywhere in the Terms & Conditions for the Chase card:
https://chaseonline.chase.com/resour..._0022_0025.pdf
These T & C's do state that closure of the account may result in forfeiture of miles not yet sent to BA:
"if your Account is closed for any reason, ... we reserve the right to prohibit you from earning BA Miles through your Account and to cause you to forfeit any BA Miles that we have not yet sent to British Airways."
Does anyone have the source for this claim? Thanks!

Both DH and I received a card in the mail from BA offering 5,000 bonus miles for $750 spend for December and January. Of course, it just came now and the month is halfway over - but this is very doable. Our cards are up for renewal end of this month. Anyone else get this offer? Not sure if it is worth it as we were going to cancel before the annual fee hit.

Before you call in to cancel you know they are going to ask you "why," so you just need to have a simple, brief, un-arguable answer. Every time you are asked any question, give that same answer. That always works for me, and it lets the retention specialist go on to the next customer quickly.
One answer that I sometimes use is "I don't want to pay the annual fee." Every time the rep asks a question, no matter what the question, give that identical same answer...the broken-record technique.
Closing the account this evening was simple and relatively quick.

I called in this evening to cancel and spoke with two polite individuals who did not sound like they were in a far-away nation.
