Open and closed accounts count toward average age!!!

Did you buy the 24 Super Bowl tickets on face value or had to pay premium?

No, closed ones don't. After you close a credit card, after a set period of time, the record of that credit line falls off your credit record - as if it never existed, thus it doesn't apply to your average credit age.

I guess what you mean is closed accounts don’t count after they are removed from your CR. This happens after 7 – 10 years if at all. After seven years your other accounts have all aged seven years so as I originally said this has little to no effect on your score.

Big THANK YOU to everyone here

I've been reading this forum on and off for years but only BA deal got me going:
1. Applied 12-20-09
2. Got the card 1-07-10
3. Spend $ 3200 1-14-10
4. Paid the card off in full 1-20-10
5. Got points 1-23-10.
- So, thank you all! And thank you BA/Chase, too.
- One funny thing; I had to call and ask to make a payment. I didn't get any cut-off date. My worry was that they wait over 3 months and then the deal's no good. So, pls call and ask the same if Chase won't bill you.

Couple more data points

I currently have a Chase card with web access set up. I applied on web with "new" link on 1/08 for myself using my online sign-in and:

  • 1/11 Chase 800 line says received on 1/09
  • - Says decision will come by mail in "1-2 weeks" ^
  • 1/22 BAEC e-mail comes
  • 1/23 (Sat!) BAEC PIN e-mail
  • 1/25 Chase 800 line finally says approved w/ $10,000 CL but ...

my current Chase online account shows $20,000 CL of older card reduced by $10,000! Later received letter dated 1/20 stating that decision was based on an Experian report and also that the $20k CL was "higher than you have typically used".

My SO also applied on 1/08 but without using our on-line sign in (she is an authorized user of the account) with the result:
  • 1/11 Chase 800 line says received on 1/09
  • - Says decision will come by mail in "1-2 weeks" ^
  • 1/27 Chase 800 line STILL says above

So just returned from the BA website - pleased to discover that there do not appear to be any heinous co-pays or fare restrictions (of the type found at DL, and previously UA) on using miles to upgrade. So for 100k miles I can upgrade two people WT+ to Business Class for TATL roundtrip! Plus net 10k+ miles each (if flying from west coast to london) plus Chase miles for purchase. ^

Now I just need to consult the BA mavens on whether upgrade inventory is tight and when it gets released (UA is notoriously bad these days).

Availability of upgrade inventory into business class is reasonably good for those attempting to use miles to upgrade leisure travel -- the main reason being those are the flights where the business class cabin tends to be less likely to be as close to fully booked as for those attempting to use miles to upgrade work-related travel.

The release schedule is not something I've paid much mind because I usually just buy the tickets on condition of already knowing that there is upgrade space available.

Ugg, I have to start calling and harassing Chase.

Had the card since around 12/2 and used immediately yet no bonus or even charge miles have ever posted

Try sending a secure message (assuming you are using online account management). Less headache, documented responses.

Thanks for that - I sent the message and hope they will fix without me having to be on the phone for an hour!
