Question about PTY security
 

We’re flying PTY-SCL. I’ve read that there are two security checkpoints at PTY, including a second one at the gate. Is that still the case? (These reports that I read are a few years old.)

I’ve also read that security will take away empty water bottles — even refillable ones. Is this true? If so, I’ll have to pack and check my Nalgene bottles if I don’t want to lose it.

Check the Copa forum for the latest info. The secondary at-gate security is only for flights to the US, Canada, and Europe.

Just connected through there and no secondary on way out to EZE but yes on way back to ATL (as mentioned above, it's just certain regions). It's strange though as they use retractable bollards like grocery store line management but they have to put in security guards because people keep trying to go under them as it doesn't really look like a checkpoint. They didn't take water bottles at the gate but were very strict about not having liquids - lots of people drinking in line.

Not sure about bottles at main security checkpoint though.
