Guatemala: Fuego volcano erupts, GUA closed, 3 Jun 2018

In Guatemala, volcán Fuego, 25 mi / 40km southwest of Guatemala City, has erupted sending a 6 km plume of ash into the sky and releasing pyroclastic flows that have killed dozens, perhaps more. This is the most violent activity from Fuego in a long time, and Gustemala’s most violent volcanic activity since 1902.

La Aurora International Airport (GUA) near Guatemala City is closed today due to the ash plume. Soldiers were noted shoveling ash by hand from the runways.

Yes, it is a tragedy. Last time I checked the news, at least 75 people have been confirmed dead.
