BY not collecting departure tax

just booked a return from LGW to LIR ... confirmation email includes the following:

Exit tax of 29 US Dollars per person payable upon departure. Tax can be paid by credit/debit card or alternatively in US Dollars or Costa Rican Colons.

Thomson does not participate in collecting the tax via their fares. It's $31 now. It just went up from $29.

it was still 29 USD on sunday !
i read something about the government putting the increase on hold.

btw, there are large signs at LIR saying that credit card payments of the departure tax go through as cash (rather than as standard purchases) - so your credit card issuer may charge an additional fee.

Oops. You're right. It's still $29 for the time being.

Paying the tax with a credit card is processed as a cash advance. That means an extra fee and that interest starts accruing immediately.

Or if you have one of the credit cards that doesn't charge a fee on foreign cash withdrawals (such as the Halifax Clarity card) - it's just the interest
