Taca - sfo/sal

Our daughter is doing a study abroad program next fall in El Salvador and needs to fly SFO to SAL. Taca Airlines has nonstop service which we prefer. And hubby and I hope to visit her there over Thanksgiving. Would love to hear your feedback and experiences. Thanks!

You may find some useful info in the Other North and South America FF forum.

Also, there is a website AirlineQuality that people post reviews of flights. Taca seems to have some favorable ratings there.

Taca would probably be your best bet on that route unless you are into any other loyalty program that would get you a status boost or such. They fly newer airbuses, and have an excellent on time record, as well as free food and drinks on their flights. They have good prices and have been known to upgrade non elites on routes to/from US where few of their elites fly.

The airport in El Salvador is easy to use, and mostly orderly.

You should be good. Have fun.

TACA seat assignments

Hi,

TACA tells me that seat assignments really are not confirmed until 24 hours prior even though they have given me a seat assignment now. Does that make sense to you?

I just flew TACA this past weekend and was very impressed. 3 out of my 4 flights were ontime and arrived early, while one was 30 minutes late. They served decent food on all of the flights, regardless of whether they were 90 minute or 5 hour flights. Some of their planes had PTVs with USB plugs. All in all, a very pleasant experience and I would choose to fly them over any US airline when flying to Central America.

We are considering TACA for a CUN-SAL-LAX routing.

Is 2 hours enough time for a connection to USA?
Are there any lounges in SAL open to *G?

Anybody else flown LACSA from CUN?

Connecting to the USA through SAL is a breeze. You will reamin airside but have to go through a secondary security screening at the gate. Just mostly an open your carry-on type pat down. 30-40 minutes is really all you should need on a Lacsa/Taca-Lacsa/Taca connection.

No *G lounge, but if you can somehow get upgraded on Taca, the FC boarding pass will get you into the TACA lounge. Otherewise there are a couple of bars on the concourse with limited food selection. Have a Pilsner!

I know this thread is fairly dated but for the record, the TACA's VIP Salones Lounge in SAL is nothing worth visiting. The couple of times I went in I left after 10 or so minutes for the gate. Its depressing, ugly and offers very little in amenities.
