Bacon/Pork is not very popular in India, anyway. And not just in Hyderabad.

CX 251 HKG-LHR May 2019

Thanks for a fellow FT talker for the photos of his first class meals from HKG to LHR this month!
He forgot to take the pictures of the menu but the photos pretty much speak for themselves.

Amuse bouche

Caviar

Chinese soup

Western appetizer/salad

Chinese main course

Chinese sweet soup

Dim Sum Breakfast

Egg and fish

Thanks again for the FT talker for the meal photos!

Hi Dr HFH

I was actually the flyer in question (thanks again to Carfield for all his work!), and can confirm that the crab meat/watermelon (plus a bit of avocado) appetizer was delicious.

For the one I had on my flight I thought it was vile and a failed attempt at trying too hard to be gastronomic-like...it was sour and too icy.

My sources have informed to expect more of these coming on the way as the F soft product prepares for some refreshes later on.

Besides, I am quite surprised that the London based crew, which are known for their excellent standards and consistency, actually plated the dishes rather hastily and forgot to present high touch card for OP. Or was this 251 operated by HKG base?

I'm not sure if it's me and my family member's taste, or whether the meal served in BRU-HKG J is really poor. It's so difficult to find something that we would like. Everything is cheese (which we don't eat). Also, there is no luxury element in the menu. I'm not talking about F class luxury, but something like a steak or lamb chop would be really nice.
On the other hand, the meals are terrible. The appetiser (Duck) was really tough. The wonton noodles was awful with a weird texture, and it's worse than the pre-packed Wonton in HK. For breakfast, the congee is bland as ever, and I have to add loads of salt in. I'm not sure if it's BRU catering problem, or whether CX likes to cut cost.
I wrote a comment form about how awful the food is, and while giving it to ISM, she mentioned that many people in J complained about the food, so I guess CX has to work on it.

The menu is as follows:
Lunch

To start
Soy Poached Duck with Chinese wine sauce, marinated lotus root and carrots

Mains
Beef fillet with spicy Sichuanese sauce, choi sum and steamed jasmine rice
Shrimp and pork wonton with noodle in soup
Carbonari raviolis with mint and Pecorino sauce, fried artichoke
Chicken ballotine with old Brugge cheese, mustard grain sauce, roasted potatoes and green beans
Quiche Lorraine with tomato berry salad, balsamic vinaigrette
Couscous salad, grilled haloumi cheese, sautéed porcini mushrooms and sun-dried tomato vinaigrette

Same menu on my flight to LAX. Deutz was great! Though a bit surprised not to see Krug.

Oh well that is exactly the answer I expected. The mains + the snacks (e.g. burger) are the same. No, I doubt they have soup in Y+. But it is sad that only soup is the difference, isn't it?

I don't know - I haven't flown CX Y+ or J, so I didn't realize they only give you soup extra in F. I'd be very happy with the meals in my photos above if flying Business Class. Nice work, CX!

You think that was outstanding? You should have tried CX F five or ten years ago!

Yeah! Can't go back in time, so I'll enjoy the moment. Superb flight. ^
