It's worth noting that EK is in the sin bin too, alongside QR which is already in the sin bin. VS has a temporary (voluntary?) suspension in place because (reportedly) a crew was sent to Penny's Bay. The cumulative effect is quite significant.

So is it even possible to fly into Hong Kong from anywhere except the Mainland right now?

Yes, while some options may be temporarily closed off there are still several others. To cite just two examples, plenty of people flying back from UK and Europe on Finnair while CX are still operating flights out of Manchester (despite being banned from Heathrow).

Given the prevalence of Omicron it's just a matter of time before MAN and HEL incur suspensions under HKSARG rules.

CX is operating one passenger flight on Fridays from MAN, but none scheduled for January.
AY is under threat of the new rules as they fly daily.
LH has a couple of weekly flight (stopping in BKK on the way). KL has some flights (stop in BKK). TK still flies but risks ban.. Currently QR, EK, KE, SQ (no transit to HK) are impossible.
