Pre-order your meal is now available on CX website for F and J pax

I have a JFK flight in a few days time and notice that I can now choose my meal online through MMB page. Basically one can choose or shall I say reserve one of the 6 main meal options. As I see it, this pre-order service is available for First and Business class passengers on selected routes only. Pax can select their meal upto 24 hours before flight departure. I have a LHR - HKG flight next month however this pre-order my meal service isn't available for this route.

This is something new to me.

IF we did not have COVID-19, Cathay could have already launched new business class and new first class on their B777-9, and new regional business class on A321neo in 2020. However......

Looks like I got the option from HKG to SYD (but not on JFK to HKG). Here's the options for J:
  • Classic beef burger, Monterey Jack cheese bacon, tomato, pickled onions and zucchini on a toasted brioche bun
  • Steamed chicken with abalone sauce stir fried kai lan and steamed jasmine rice
  • Grilled prime Australian beef tenderloin with balsamic vinegar radicchio, green beans and mashed sweet potato
  • Light curried cauliflower soup
  • Mak's signature wonton noodles

... but do make sure CX loads enough of the other meals, in case the selected one isn't up to scratch and the passenger needs to change mid flight.

I sure hope the serving is sufficient, and not the typical minuscule bowl served at their Wellington Street restaurant. My personal preference has always been for Tsim Chai Kee directly across the street!

Looks like it's only available ex-HKG?

So it's more about reserving your meal, rather than providing more options that are then loaded for you (eg like Malaysia's pre-order).

Wouldn't Qantas J passengers appreciate these meal choices?

Then what's the point of asking you to select your meal in advance? lol
Unless the meal is really inedible like it is clearly contaminated I don't think CX has the responsibility of providing unlimited meal choices to its J pax.

Yes, it was the same meal but given the flight only have 8 passengers in J, it was probably done to ensure the right meals got loaded. BTW- I ordered the steak which was cooked well done. Not recommended. I ordered the wonton noodle soup which as good.
