Cathay Credits : Why would you pick it over cash refund?

Has anyone picked Cathay Credits instead of cash? There's no bonus/incentive right?

Who in their right mind would pick credit over cash if there is no incentive or difference in amount?

A friend picked credit, because a credit card was used which has since been cancelled.

Another reason I can think of: if a credit card was used to take advantage of a new credit card bonus / bonus points and cancelling the card would mean losing the bonus.

I thought in that case the credit card company is still obliged to refund the amount to the cardholder?

I think he deemed it too much of a hassle, since he does not hold a bank account from that bank etc.
Since he lives in HK he's pretty sure he can use up the money on a future ticket. And the value wasn't high.
