Global Times: HKG will resume transit service to Mainland China soon.
It seems that the Chinese regulator finally gives green light.

Transit will be allow between 15/8 n 15/10. But only outboard from China will be allowed.
Still can’t transit to mainland china
also I read that these transit paxes will be escorted to the next boarding gates directly. There will be designated zones for these transit paxes to wait.

Happy ending. 3 hours+ on the phone with BA and they were able to ammend my existing ticket and add on two CX flights TPE to HKG and HKG to TPE. An extra £500. Money well spent I think. What a mess. The staff were very helpful even though each department would contradict the previous one by saying it was an avios booking or it wasn't and therefore could or couldn't have new cash fares added. Got the in the end! Thanks for everyone's help.
As for Taiwan visa, I'm going to open a representative office for my UK business, and this comes with a nice work permit & visa. Yay.

Commercial wont help. Rewards won't even let commercial transfer the call through to them. Commercial have asked me to call Cathay - they've missed the point completely that this has to all be on the same PNR to comply with Hong Kong transfer rules. Jesus. Is there an emergency number I can call for someone who know what they're doing?

Commercial had to transfer me to the avios team directly because they wouldn't accept the transfer because they insisted they can't help. On hold for another 20 minutes. Spoke to someone in avios who said it was possible to do and I need to speak to the Pay with Avios team and put me on hold again. 30 minutes later someone from the executive team answered - no clue who I was or why I was calling. Right back to square 1. I've been on the line now for 2 hours and 28 minutes and have gotten no where. I AM LIVID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really hope someone from BA reads this.

I've tried searching, but in vain. Could anyone please point me towards a trip report involving transit at HKG. I'd like to know how the process works in practice, whether you're free to roam airside after transit security, whether you can visit the lounges and what service the lounges offer these days. Thanks!
