P Class Added to Earning Chart

Both the CX website and the AM website have just added P class to the MPO earning chart and AM earning chart, respectively, for CX and KA. P class earns the same amount of club points and miles as D and I classes. As of now, P class has been used for business class AD75 tickets, but looks like CX and KA will soon use it for revenue tickets. P class fares will probably be between D class and I class.

Why would you call that a moot point? I could think of 2 potential reasons at least:
1. CX finds the price difference between D class and I class to be too big and wants to introduce a fare in between.
2. CX wants to lower the fare for I class.

I never think CX wanted to lower the fare but agree suspect they realized they need to diversify and seek new O&D market segment away from existing captive corporate base. Probably old I fare becomes where P is, with new "I" fare similar to Emirate's "bare-bone" J fare with no seat reservation, no lounge access, limited luggage, and limiting other frills, whilst those perks are readily available to those with status anyways. Not sure if airlines have luxury of talking about "not cannibalizing" on corp J/C/D segment, because i don't see those coming back in fashion we saw.

I would be a buyer of those bare-bone I fare as long as these aren't "non-changeable/refundable"

I didn’t think about that as the routes I usually fly D class and I class difference is not significant.

Then again, if they are going to downgrade I class to lesser blings. That will entice FFs like us since the things they could take away we actually can do so by virtue of our FF status.

Huh. The update might explain why I was getting a 404 error trying to access the en_US version of the Earning Club Points page last week.

Did P previously just not earn anything at all?

I seem to remember the lowest fare buckets for premium economy and economy cannot be upgraded with miles, but the lowest for business can; is there a possibility this is getting changed too?

P now shown as business class

I just stumbled upon P class under Marco Polo Website showing under Business Class eligible for Tier points, in addition to the usual J, C, D, I. Also Asia Miles shows it as upgradable fare with miles into first. I cannot see any P fares filed yet. Anyone knows more?

Just had a look on expert flyer and saw this pattern:

J9 C9 D9 P9 I0

Not sure if this gives any indication as to what P class is.

When I try to book a ticket on this flight the lowest class I can get is D. So maybe no fares filed for P yet?

Sold ex Japan

I searched randomly for fares and so far only found P class fares ex Japan (while they had no I Class). Ex other markets saw I, D, C, J and no P class.

Probably, tell me, what is the purpose of this P fare ? Just 8-40 J class seats per airplane and having 6 booking classes for those seats seem quite a lot to me.
