As an Australian aside (you quote Qantas), would be fun to see what will happen on Virgin Australia order of 48 737Max. Will Boeing have to refund deposit and pay penalty because they cancel the MAX series, or will bankrupt Virgin Australia increase its liability by cancelling the orders?.
I would have been more surprised if the contracts are not more than a few hundred pages long, and probably more verging on the thousand mark.

For Virgin, I would expect that Boeing is incentivised to come to the table to negotiate the terms on the order. If they don't it could mean a bankrupt Virgin which means zero business for Boeing. But yes....will Boeing pull the plug first?

SCMP report: https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/...ing-777x-order

Cathay Pacific is mulling adjustments to its HK$58 billion (US$7.4 billion) order for Boeing’s newest widebody jet, the 777X, including lengthy delivery deferrals and switching to the less expensive 787 Dreamliner, sources say.
With Cathay’s first 777-9 delivery about 18 months from delivery, well-informed industry sources said Cathay could have paid for up to 50 per cent of that aircraft already.

787? Unless CX is being ordered to "eat" someone fellow Chinese airline;s order, over everyone in Cathay City's dead bodies.

Still don't get you... You mean Air China / CCP told CX to order 787?

Or they take CA's unwanted orders...

I wonder is this a Related Party Transaction or not.

This could happen... But still, if CX would want to cancel the 777X order, it normally would come with some kind of replacement order, which in the moment can basically only mean 787.

Danny in SCMP has quite reliable sources about information of CX. You can even call him CX reporter......

It is still better than deposit forfeiture. FWIW - SQ also has ordered the same 787.

What's wrong with the 787 if true?
