Airlines with dedicated freighters like Cargolux and CX Cargo can't get enough planes in the air. Demand is unprecedented. Cargo prices are so high some passenger aircraft like the 777 can fly even with nobody on board.

Cargo prices have soared indeed. One major reason is that a lot of cargo was transported in the hold of regular passenger planes. That is not available any more and cargo planes cannot accommodate the extra charge. CX being one of the top cargo airline is "lucky" as their regular cargo revenues increase due to price increase. Some airlines like KE (another top cargo airline) are using empty pax planes just for cargo, as CX is doing. But that is quite costly as planes are not equipped to transport a full cargo load. Maybe they plan to retrofit them.

KA is planning to use A330 for Japan cargo flights, which is good utilisation of parked planes.
By the way, if you are on these CX flights in the cabins listed, please self-quarantine for 14 days, as a Coronavirus patient is onboard.

I don't think 777 BCF and SF conversions are happening yet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_777#777_Freighter

But I don't think CX will want to make those conversions anyway - they may be irreversible.
I saw photos of cartons being shoved into passenger seats for some rescue mission - I wonder can this be done as a regular thing (it would mean lots more cargo handlers needed on the ground though).

CX289 do you also have info on who actually is confirmed inflight infection? We have been tracking flight numbers since CX320 7 March flight attendant, I really expect some inflight cases to be confirmed now.

I guess that it would be hard to ascertain. Let's take a flight from EU on 17 March where a pax was tested positive on 20 March. Other cases on the same flight tested on 22 March could have been infected in EU.

Or are you talking about inflight infection of a FA?

@CX289, I assume that you list the departure date of theflight, not the arrival date?

The HK government has a list of all flights related to HK confirmed cases, and the seat numbers of passengers.
The dates are departure dates.

There doesn't seem to be big aircraft blowups https://www.chp.gov.hk/files/pdf/flights_trains_en.pdf (the Turkish flight is the Egypt 100% infected tour group; they've been around each other for days).

I agree people on infected flights should be put on notice but so far the HEPA theory still seems to work.

Which isn’t? Those HEPA filters better work, and hope CHP can contain any adjacent seat outbreaks that flare up due to the coming home flights.

The students aren’t eating or using the loos for whole flights now.

Fortunately, I am a sleep apnea patient so I hook up my CPAP machine with a hospital grade filter. Used that the whole 826 flight except for drinking water.
Asked for water at Pier before boarding and was told that they don't have small bottles and was given a 1.25l bottle.
All FAs wearing industrial eye shield and mask.
The load was light up until Wed when they rerouted stranded pax onto the flight. Kept my Y triple seat lie-flat, but moved from 41 to 69.

No loo and food, my poor babies!!!

13 hours, plus getting into and out of airport. While they're capable of surviving that, doesn't make for a comfortable journey. But better that than coughing your lungs out.
