Transferring To Earlier Flight On Long Layover

Transferring from CX-841 to CX-113 on 2/4 in PE. Booked the long layer to enjoy the First Class lounges, but 7 hours might be over kill...

Does anyone know if I can try and get on CX-2191 which departs 3 hours earlier?

2191 has oversold Y and 2 seats in PE so was also hoping to up my chances of an op up. But perhaps this makes the answer to the above question a clearer no?

Yep 1-2 bags depending how much I feel like schlepping carry on.

It depends on the conditions of your ticket. Some tickets might involve a change fee and upfaring if your ticket is in a lower subclass which is sold out.

Also, they may need time to locate your checked bags and retap them.

If you’ve checked your bags through they’d be a lot more reluctant. I’ve done it before in the lounge, but they made it clear they’d have to locate my bag first which could take a while before they can make the swap. Fair enough, I suppose.

Try short-checking your bags to HKG, then taking them upstairs to the check-in desks. As mentioned, a lot will still depend on the conditions of your ticket.

Clearly CX113 is on CX metal but CX2191 is a codeshare with New Zealand. They may not be too happy to put you on that already-oversold codeshare. Having no checked bags/no specific seat preference may improve your odds though.

official rule would be if your original flight's delayed or already oversold, they could put you on an earlier flight without looking at your ticket rule. Otherwise it would be up to your fare rule, which in most cases means that you would be paying a fee for change to an earlier flight.

This flight number (CX2191) looks strange. I do not remember any CX metal flights has four digits---the flight number should only involve three digits. Is this flight really operated by CX?

Recently NZ cut their flights to HKG, so CX is now operating for both airlines, and the flight number is now CX 2191

Only for Jan. and Feb. 2020 I believe.
