Summer 2020 Regional Flights Using 333 or 773 only?

Checking CX timetable. Starting from 29 Mar 2020, seems all regional flights will be operated by 333 or 773 except PEK (CX390) and HND (CX548). I checked BKK, SIN, TPE, MNL, KIX, NRT, NGO, CGK, PVG. What happen to those 77W, 359 and 351? They will only operate long haul flights? Or just a temporary schedule?

Lower demand
--> Less utilisation of fleet
--> Regional fleet more optimised for short-haul missions (passenger comfort be damned)?

I guess the question is, how did they have so many spare A333 frames when they used to rotate in idle long haul frames?

And by the way, is 772 or A333 preferable in J? They both seemed cramped to me.

Although there are no 359, 351 and 77W loaded yet, as we get nearer to summer these usually get loaded in.
There surely is not enough room at HKG anyway to keep all the 359, 351 and 77W that arrive on long hauls 0600-0800 and then depart 2300-0100. There must be around 30 of these...

Not at the gate, but surely there's more than enough remote parking spots at HKIA or at the west apron.

You may be right. However in the winter timetable at present the 351, 359 and 77W all do extensive short haul rotations, so would be surprised if they totally cut this arrangement for summer.
It has also been normal in recent years for the timetable to show all short hauls as 333/773 up until a few months before operation, then change some to 351, 359 etc. nearer the operating period.

Probably temporary schedule as others have mentioned.

I highly doubt CX can run all these regional schedule with JUST the regional planes.

I doubt if CX would change its long standing “intelligent misuse” of long haul aircraft. Perhaps it’s just too early to load the inventories?

I’d prefer 333, as 2-2-2 feels a lot less crowded than 2-3-2 IMHO.

When I have booked an A333 far out I have been offered 1-2-1 seating. Since there are only 5 33Ps left and hopefully 3 of these will be gone in the coming 6 months (two (HLU and HLV) to the Dragon and one (HLD) returned to the lessor) the longer term challenge will only be to avoid the 773s. Unfortunately much of my flying involves MNL where there has been an infestation of 773s recently, presumably as O&D loads to the northeast decline while transfer traffic holds up.

Better that they make people think they're getting a regional aircraft, and then change it to long haul to stop complaints from equipment changes.

Have been flying in and out of MNL frequently for around 10 years and the 773 has featured regularly..If anything I see it slightly less during the past couple of years with the transition in of the 350 necessitating interim usage on short haul in the interests of maximizing crew training/sectors on the new type.

That said, wish the short haul J product will change.

Eg Qantas regional recliners? Fewer people bellyache over in the Qantas board that A380s/Dreamliners don't fly west-east coast/trans-Tasman.

That’s not because the qantas recliner is good, it’s because qantas sets expectations low as to which aircraft will operate.

There is moaning when a 737 is put on a SYD-PER flight though vs the A330

It is only a preliminary schedule, and a further change may be applied later
