I found immediate availability for HKG-JFK on a particular date, but when I try to book SIN-HKG-JFK, it says only waitlist. I did just that. Would CX release one of the plentiful SIN-HKG sets, since HKG-JFK is immediately confirmable? Will calling AM (which I dread to do under current situation) help with the release of a SIN-HKG seat?

Star-crossed pair

Can you book them as separate redemptions? CX will check through and protect in any case.

You can book them separately... but HKG-JFK will cost 125,000 AM in F and SIN-HKG will cost 25,000 AM in J.

But combined SIN-HKG-JFK in one J/F booking will cost only 118,400 AM.

Can anyone check 2x Business for CX111 (HKG-SYD) on 23-Jan-2021? This was wait listed from the very first minute of it going live for a standard reward, and we need to decide our planning for the return leg, the window opens up soon. We need this one to directly connect to a QF Long Haul.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for checking, ernestnywang! So if I read that right, Taiwan says the plane is (almost) full while US says the plane is empty? That's interesting... Maybe I will have to wait a bit to see if the availability syncs up before guessing about the waitlist clearance.

Edit: Actually can still buy 2xI class from Cathay HK website, so I guess the Taiwan POS is showing incorrect data?

There's no incorrect or correct data, and nothing is out of sync. CX discriminates buyers based on where you are buying. That's it.

Also, I wouldn't say the US POS indicates the plane is empty. It only says there are 9+ seats in J, 9+ seats in W, and 9+ seats in Y. Being almost a year out, I do think the flight is quite empty, but that's not something you can interpret from availability display.

I thought you were looking for redemption tickets. In this case, I don't think POS matters, and U class has no availability.

I stand corrected. Thanks for your help and insight! The difference is the POS is quite interesting, although not something I've had to look into that much before. For me testing the seats, I was just curious - I am indeed looking for the U class, hope something opens up!

Had a waitlist clear, and missed the ticketing deadline by 30 mins due to a 90 Min hold on phone to AM, agent couldn't reinstate seats

Does the seat go back to award inventory?

Flight is 1 month out

Seats are still show waitlist on normal AM search

Normally waitlists don’t die at stated time - normally next morning. Are you sure your booking is cancelled?

Deadline was 10pm, got through at 1030 agent couldn't reserve the seats.

Booking also disappeared from AM acc at 10pm

Had to re-waitlist it

That certainly used to be true, but I'm not sure if it is always the case any more? I had a similar experience a few months back when I called in after the 10pm deadline and the confirmed seat was gone. When I gave the MPC agent the booking reference number, she told me she could still find it in her system but it was empty.

My belief was from studies on when bookings die probably from as way back as two years ago. So they changed the system sometime between then and a few months back.

First time booking an award with Asia Miles and was curious how waitlisting would work in this situation. I've found U availability for a multistop award PVG - HKG (stop) - JFK but there is no first availability on that day. Is it possible to waitlist for F on the HKG-JFK portion of this award? Or is it better to drop the PVG - HKG leg and book the U availability on HKG - JFK and then waitlist for F?

Thanks!
