Has there been another lounge closure that was stated as temporary but ended up being permanent?

ICN was never touted to be temporary. There was media speculation it would be refurbished but if you look at all the actual notices from CX it just said “closed”.

They differentiate passengers to Sky Lounge and Priority Lounge... but both of them are actually priortiy pass lounges.

Does FRA not have segregated departures/arrivals? Sorry never been.

Not in T2 and certain parts of T1.

I wonder why they do not advertise the JAL Lounges. It is a bit of a hike to the usual departure gate, but it is manageable.

I think if they purposefully direct them to the JAL lounges, CX needs to pay a fee but not if you use your OW benefits since it's under OW rules.

CX has to pay either way, but more likely that CX negotiated a cheaper rate with the contract lounges, so they have an incentive not to direct pax to JL lounge.

Yes, I also assume it is related to lower costs. While the last renovation several years ago JAL lounges were used as alternative.

However, close due to "maintenance until further notice" is an interesting wording and sound like not just only some weeks for whatever a maintenance is required.
It is just a guess but maybe it is indeed a "temporary"? costs reduction since there is no longer own CX staff operating the lounge ... CX close the lounge "for mainenance", don´t has to pay employees and the provided services but instead most likely a lower fee to redirect passangers to such priority lounges.

JAL lounge staff told me this week that the CX lounge would be closed for 2-3 weeks but I wouldn't take that as any indication. At the closed CX lounge the sign on the door gives no hint of a future reopening date.
