The next few days looks bleak for HKG..
Such prolonged blockades with some violent participants would not be tolerated in the US. But they have the national guard and even the army to supplement local and state police.
Anyway, one can expect severe travel disruptions. Currently all departing longhauls are cancelled. Lots of foreign ac trapped in HKG.

Flights are not diverting.
FWIW - TPE is the best airport for diversion. The problem is the aircraft may not have enough fuel for the diversion. So flights are still coming in, but simply not leaving.
Call CX, wait until you reach a live person and ask to be booked on the CX codeshare NZ metal.
The severe weather guideline does not apply to all labour forces. Certain people are exempted. Generally, airport workers are not subject to the guideline (i.e. no free holiday).

Not sure what is “fake”. The news always said that only those flights where check in had closed would be able to take off, and those flights enroute to HK would be allowed to land. I’m sure there will be exceptions to these general statements.

I have an Asia Miles itinerary booked for 2 pax in business class for the 15th of August. Any advice / idea on how to go about cancelling that? Just looked at the website, and, it said No cancellation waiver??!?
