Luggage Check through

I am planning to fly HKG-DAD and DAD-HKG-JFK on separate PNR's but both are Cathay. Can I checkthrough in my luggage in HKG so that I don't have to pick it up in DAD - that way I can easily swing around in DAD?
The flight arrives in DAD at 7.15pm and leaves at 8.10pm.

Yes, should be fine. Just ask the staff at the check-in counter.

They are more likely to just check your bag from HkG to LAX (it won’t go to Vietnam).

That's perfect.
Now to hope that my quick turnaround in Vietnam doesn't run into any glitches.

You will likely run into issues with VN immigration for doing an immediate turn - at least that was the issue earlier this year: https://rapidtravelchai.boardingarea...-direct-turns/

Yuck, I do have a visa so I can clear immigration if they force me to, but it could be tight since I only have an hour.

OP, suggest that you get to HKG check in early.

iirc, bags canít backtrack- they should tag your bags straight, avoiding the DAD turn. Should being the operative word- if you run into an unwilling agent etc- give yourself time to sort things at HKG. Alternatively, depending on the layover on the way back from DAD, leave the bags in left luggage, and then check them in for the US leg.

no idea about DAD immigration, but my experiences with an e-visa at SGN have been super quick- but all boils down to how many flights are landing just before yours...

Just ask the check-in agent to tag the bag for HKG to JFK only. Tried before and no problem with that.
They will also link your tickets together when issue boarding pass.

Presumably you are in the front of the plane - as. long as you get off pretty much first and go straight to immigration should be quick. Better to d o that than try and direct turn, get turned back and find yourself at the back of the queue....
