You got very lucky. You understand you never had a connection, right?

Unlikely. OP also tried to do TWoV by taking the HSR from HK to GZ, even after being told it was impossible.

Hmmm, in that case, maybe a hard lesson is a good one?

Hi,

I think the OP also had a China Southern flight from CAN to Phu Quoc vietnam which he lost money on as he could not get to CAN so sounds like an expensive weekend.

Regards

I'm going to be the devil's advocate and say that OP won't learn any lesson unless he/she is stranded in the middle of nowhere and has no money to buy another ticket to fly home. He/she is going to keep pushing his/her luck.

In spite of the fact that the OP stubbornly attempted to pull off a completely impossible plan on the outbound, I do have some sympathy for him because I've made similar mistakes myself.

Based on this thread and the TWOV thread I have come to the conclusion that the OP is a chump. Seemingly a very good-natured and optimistic one, but still a chump. I’m sure I’ve read about his great-grandfather once in a PG Wodehouse novel, he seems to have directly descended from one of Bertie’s friends.

Definitely. I'd like to make him my new travel agent. I need to live more dangerously.

I believe I posted about my India snafu upthread, but here is a more detailed version:

1. In the summer of 1998, my university sent me to India to do research

2. They bought me an airplane ticket SFO-HKG-SIN-BOM

3. But, they didn't get me visa

4. Once in HK, I learned that I needed a visa

5. Getting the visa was a 5 day process, but I must admit that the consulate people were extremely helpful

6. During those 5 days, I stayed in a really bad Wanchai hotel, but had a great time

7, SQ could have charged me a change fee (per the ticket rules), but did not

Sure, I lost $300 (later reimbursed) because of the screw up, but I honestly have zero regrets. Basically, sometimes mistakes lead to amazing experiences.

Im not sure to call it brave or stupid
I'm uncomfortable with a 1h15min connection even on a single ticket and its CX-CX
