Interestingly Hainan Air was bailed out this month by an unknown party on some notes that became due according to SCMP, they also have been subjected to court action over unpaid leasing fees.

Interesting to see how long HK airlines is around given HK Express was likely generating the cash with a lower cost base.

CX clearly can smell blood in the water, they will want to use UO crew agreements to keep pressing down on their pilots and cabin crew conditions.

As with jetstar to Qantas may start to see all the investment going to the low cost unit and receiving the new metal, marketing $ and expanding into new markets whilst the legacy carriers are allowed to shrink

Seems that this acquisition has been successful, according to HK news reports.

Maybe only able to earn AM only?
Able to earn CP would mean more elites in MPC, which is not a good thing for everyone

I can find the link of chinese media only.
It is reported that the deal is almost done and Cathay pacific will announce in next week.
HK express will operate as a separate entity and will not change its name.

Thanks! HK01 refers to Apple Daily as its source. Apple Daily elaborates a bit more: https://hk.finance.appledaily.com/fi...90713/20728386

Not entirely familiar with how things work between QF and JQ, but https://www.jetstar.com/au/en/flight...frequent-flyer seems to indicate that at least some fares earn both status credits and Qantas points, which would be equivalent to MPO tier points and AM? Also, QF code-shares on a lot of JQ routes, too.

Not really, UO doesn't have any long haul, and expect to pay top fare in order to earn maybe 5-20 cp depends on distance....doubt this add more elites, however all of us existing elites will have a bit more choices, if lounge access and little bit of cp can be provided.

CITIC used to be one of the major shareholders of CX and KA. It seems that they remain interested in HK aviation. On the other hand, Swire, CA, and CITIC had an agreement that none of them is allowed to invest in another HK-based airline (Chinese source below). Perhaps CITIC is no longer bound to the agreement after it sold its shares to CA and Swire in 2009.

KA only has one RMQ flight a day now. If the UO flights can be used on CX ex-Taiwan fares, there will be more options for RMQ flyers.
