It's been very helpful for me to finally decide to stop accruing asia miles wherever possible

I only am able to book fairly close to.departure which means only the most expensive flights are available.

Now I send CC spend to QF or BA and have no problem redeeming.

As a result I book cheaper fare classes and less frequently on CX and no longer feel any need to chase MPC status (OW ruby is far cheaper to obtain elsewhere and gets me priority bag tags seat selection and boarding on CX).

I cant be the only one who's been prompted to look for a better deal...

EU area and low season, you still able to get 2x business seat easily. You can even get direct EU - HK flight if you lucky enough.
But for AU/NZ region, AM is useless now.

Agree, trying to look for Syd-hkg and there were no standard award available for all classes. Switch to QFF I get 4 * PE award available on CX. Go figure.

(c.f. https://onemileatatime.com/book-holiday-travel/ )

One of the features sustaining AM valuations was the ability to pick off peak day seats well in advance of travel day and ahead of everyone else.

Take that feature away and AM valuation should tank. Rightly. If they think they can flog those seats for cash then by all means do so - bury the AM golden goose with the diseased African swine (alive)...

I'm not earning a commission from this but how many of you have seen the 1.5% cash rebate card from ICBC https://www.icbcasia.com/ICBC/%E6%B5...pe/default.htm (silly name I know but the rewards are certainly not silly)

Not just that. Anything coming back from Vancouver in March, too. Standard only starting to become available.

Seeing another whip whip smack smack moment

e.g.

HKG-SIN (J class) in CX around CNY next year, say 23/24 Jan 2020, see plenty of J seats on BA / QF

Searching through AM Standard - ZILCH!

but why would i want to redeem tailored J HKG-SIN? The standard cost (25K) is more expensive than BA already!
it really is them fleecing their captive AM members - want to redeem? use tailored at some ridiculous price

(i'm not 100% complaining because on some routes - HKG to India, AM has much better availability than partners...)

key here is flexibility with mileage currency i think

Price differentiation - same principle as LH suing people who skip their last leg.

Been seeing this more and more...and its really pathetic that AM can't offer Standard redemption while BA/QF can.

Not can't, don't want to

Australians: "GDay! Have this great fare!"
Poms: "Super! Have this great fare!"
HKers: "驚喜價!". And bring out the medieval torture instruments

That's true, the last time I raised the issue I was basically told since it was peak season, they believe they can sell the seats anyway...

Wait, BA/QF are offering J award seats on CX metal but AM isn't (for the same flights)?

How long has this been going on?
