http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...usly-upda.html - not really attractive

you can apply for Citi Premiermiles, then add a bea flyer world for 60% better local generic earn rate.

question is - I assume your intent is to change to "the local" Mileage program, but should you?

If you have a foreign FFP who still offers availability that you can live with, stick with that

Thanks Percysmith for the helpful advice! The links you provided only further affirmed my belief that I should try and go for more versatile rewards. Citi points is quite attractive at this point, as I have both krisflyer and asiamile accounts. Perhaps view the Citi points as a sort of 'top-up' mechanism to avoid orphan points. Just gotta decide between the Rewards and PremierMiles then, though I understand that even between the cards, they have different conversion rates...

Flexibility only goes so far esp when leaving Hkg on a peak day. Your added flexibility is helpful only for Singapore/Thailand/Taiwan/Australia/ME3 (to Europe?) when CX is being mean.

No help on Korea, Japan, US

Some cases are of no help at that eg my understanding is QF only clears premium cabins if you're elite.

P.S. if you're sticking with KF then DBS Black MC earns KF at the same rate as AM.

I don't have a credit card report yet, so was wondering if there are any CCs out there that have a good welcome offer and is easier to get approval for? Currently I am of the mind to just apply for a Citi Rewards card to get my credit card report going (hopefully the fact that I bank with them makes it easier to approve) but happy to hear any thoughts on any other CC that is worth considering! Many thanks in advance!
Citi Prestige is better for local spending, otherwise PremierMiles is as good. (I would actually use Singaporean PremierMiles for local spending in HK, provided they have reasonable currency conversion fee.)

Generally speaking, Citi is a good idea, since you are not stuck with a single program.

I disagree on the note above however, IMO changes with AsiaMiles were surprisingly positive and added value to the program. I started using it since then.

P. S. Do not go for Rewards card though, it's useless. Prestige or PremierMiles is the solution.

YMMV but what positive change did you find? I just need one example because I have yet to find even that.

I suspect being based in Taiwan that they can get a lot of the married segment availability.

Thanks for sharing your insight! I'm curious as to why you feel the Rewards card is useless though? I was under the impression it had pretty good returns for groceries / departmental store shopping. My strategy was to actually pair the Rewards card with another general spending card, perhaps StanChart's AsiaMiles card or the Prestige card (though I am still doing a cost-benefit analysis of getting the Singaporean version of the Prestige for local spending in HK).

Great

I'm trying to rebook a HKG-MAD...SYD-HKG OW redemption from 18-28/5 (this was ticketed way before 22/6/18) to 23 or 24/5-2/6 to see if I can accommodate a work request.

Even going backwards I am being told by AM to eff off

DBS recently announced in Singapore that they are adding QF as a transfer partner. Wonder if we will get it in HKG too.
