Random observation: it appears the earn rate for Amex Platinum is 3.75 / mile for local Cathay Pacific transactions. I thought it was only foreign currency transactions and travel agents.

Edit:
What's more, see how every flight you take brings you closer to the next one. Earn 3 MEMBERSHIP REWARDS POINTS3 FOR EVERY HK$1 you spend on flights booked* directly with American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways (including Cathay Dragon), Finnair, Japan Airlines or Qantas Airways with your Platinum Card. This includes online and offline purchases in any currency.
However:
* With effect from September 1, 2019, the card benefit of earning 3 Membership Rewards points for every HK$1 spent on designated airlines will be terminated.
https://www.americanexpress.com/hk/e...ds-points.html

Interestingly my transaction was after 1 September.

Is anyone aware of the 1% that is charged on overseas transactions in HKD on the SCB Asia Miles card? I recently bought something from the UK in HKD, was charged 1% on top of the purchase amount -- and when I returned the goods I received 1% less back than the original purchase amount.

Is this normal? I don't recall this being the case with any other credit card.

i didn't know SCB deducts for refunds as well. BEA and DSB actually adds back the collected fee to refunds

Thank you Percy, very helpful information as always. This was news to me - but I guess you learn something new every day in this game.

Regarding the fee -- is it Mastercard that charges it, or is it the bank? Given the difference in practice regarding refunds, it sounds to me like it is up to the bank to decide on the fee etc?

Well, I only know Mastercard charges 0.8% for a fact.

Most banks that charge now claim 1% for Mastercard as "reimbursement". They also claim 1% for Visa "reimbursement", even though I haven't seen any documentation Visa actually charges banks too.

And I have no idea how Mastercard or Visa deals with refunds, too. It may well be fees are taken off both ways, or SCB is making it up.

Anyway all i remember now is HSBC, Citi, CCB, Bankcomm and ICBC don't pass on the fee, if any. Good if I suspect a site is charging HKD cross border.

Best Health Insurance premium rewards earn rate

Hi experts,

I thought I remember seeing somewhere in the terms and conditions of an earn rate table of 1 per $1 hkd spent on insurance, but I can't find that anymore. Anyone aware or seen that too? From memory, there was a table of different spend categories, and insurance was the only one with 1:1.

Otherwise, apart from the typical earn rate table, any suggestions of which card best is best for paying health insurance monthly premiums?

BEA flyer $5/1mile or Citi Prestige $6/1mile. Not too sure if SCB AM works or not on health insurance premiums

10% conversion bonus for RC to AM to 16 Nov 19

Hey, I've found an awesome credit card offer from HSBC Reward+. Go check it out!

Red Hot Travel Special - Asia Miles
https://www.redhotoffers.hsbc.com.hk...ML-L04-001-all

But converting via Moneyback yields more AM:

Conversion under this offer: 1 RC = 10 AM + 10% = 11 AM

Conversion via Moneyback: 1 RC = 50 MB = 12.5 AM (400 MB:100 AM)

Does anyone know if I can transfer Citi ThankYou points from my wife's Citi account to my Asia Miles account? Do they cross check account names?
