Is it just me or does it seem like there’s less promotions these days? Maybe Asia Miles has hiked the price to banks?

HSBC seems to have had a fair bit of promos this year. But SCB hasn't had anything for almost half a year I believe..

More expensive miles, higher redemption rates AND gutted availability?

Not a great year to be a frequent flyer in HK.

yep. Bea's gone out of its way to make sure its 11x promo doesn't extend to Flyer World points earning; Bankcomm has shut up instead of put up

This is overstraining my redemption list as CCB 939 is my sole remaining "proven oil well" of AM. My mother used to fund herself (you know what I mean) thru BEA and Bankcomm; now she may well have to go on my list and I may have to vacate my niece to accommodate my mother.

This led to a rather uncomfortable altercation with my family as I explained I cannot fund the whole family's home passages on Choice/Tailored and mother in a fit of pique ticketed something I have already set up for nephew for redemption in cash.

Yes my feelings exactly! I've been waiting forever for spending offers. Only HSBC has had any meaningful ones that I could make use of. Citi has a few but they generally suck.

Asia Miles themselves seem to have come out with a bit more spending bonuses (accessed via their app), so perhaps they want to control it?

I haven't seen any points-to-miles promos with Citi for quite a while. Not just to AM (they were pathetic anyway), but also to Avios and Etihad. Things with loyalty programs generally get worse. And since last year at an increased rate.

Citi does have promos, but they tend to be cash rather than miles: for example I just got $100 by putting a couple of payments through Paypal to Citi.

Two new Citi Premier promos from June 1st to September 30th, targeted, up to 20k miles (inclusive of what you would normally earn, sorry too lazy to do the math!)

I always get targeted for the minimum spend promos - and the minimum amount per phase is something ridiculous like $80k.

Want to get people's thoughts ahead of a big transaction (as mentioned up-thread - for maternity/birth hospital fees) in the order of HKD $150-200k.

Both my wife and I already hold or have held Citi Prestige/Premiermiles, HSBC Visa Signature & Amex CX Elite in the past 6 months -- hence are ineligible for any welcome offers on those cards.

The hospital accepts all credit cards as well as Alipay (!). With this in mind, I'm looking to maximize miles earning and am happy to apply for new cards, with our without welcome offers depending on what yields the most miles per dollars spent.

From what I've found so far (based on $200k spend)

SCB Asia Miles = 55,417 miles at $3.61 / mile
DBS Black = 44,000 miles at $4.55 / mile
BEA Flyer = 49,000 miles at $4.08 / mile

In terms of Alipay, I know SCB has a 4 $/m earn rate on online transactions, but are Alipay transactions eligible? Are there any other cards that would make sense to apply for and making it an 'online' transaction with Alipay? Does Alipay have any amount limits per transaction?

I'm aware of this:
Just got a notification from Standard Chartered that no more bonus points for OePay and AliPay top-ups after March.
But does that only include top-ups? I.e. do normal retail transactions still earn miles at the higher "online" rate of $4/mile?

For HK Electric, what's the next best card if no alipay or DBS black?
