The timing of this results survey is also an attempt to get the attention of CX management for negotiations. One doesn't need a poll to prove what ones already knows unless further evidence or support is needed.

And the survey results need care - it's 43% of 1603 respondents, so that's about 21% of the total pilot group.

The airline packages have changed with time and they just cannot accept it.

Something like 2500 out of Cathay's 3300 pilots earn over HK$1M per year. The median income in Hong Kong is less than HK$200K. There are very few places in the world where pilots get paid so much relative to the general population.

There are four pilots making over HK$5M annually? That's crazy.

And I assume that it does not count the perks. Many get unbelievable housing package.
In 2017 668 pilots and 24 top executives get more than 3M.

Also, I think "total remuneration" here already includes housing benefits etc as stated in 2017 annual report p.52

Thanks for that - I was too lazy to go find the update. So basically all of Cathay's pilots (even the SOs who sit there and watch the autopilot) now get $1M plus per year, and half of them get more than $2M/year.

Just wondering, and I’m happy to be corrected, but how does 3347 flight staff out of 16931 getting over HK$1M equate to all of CX’s pilots?

Flight staff does include cabin crew, but I would be very surprised if any significant number of cabin crew earned over $1M a year. Cathay has about 3300 pilots according to the initial SCMP article.

I don't think it's appropriate to bucket SO's into the 1M plus category. If you look at the US industry, first officers aren't even paid as much (https://thepointsguy.com/2017/10/pil...ionals-400000/). Also, there is no way CX subsidizes a SO's training only to pay them $1M plus per year.
