What normally would happen once CX/KA notified IB that there is no F on this flight and that the pax is moved to J, then IB reissues the ticket in J.
When the pax shows up at PVG, the agent will see a J ticket not a F ticket.

This is over a month before the flight, not a last minute change.
OPs going TO PVG. at HKG staff is more lenient if you give them a F eticket. they probably have notes on what happened too.
Given my experience on IB (you'll connect to someone easier than CX, but its much harder to get anyone to do anything), i would just deal with the whole situation at HKG (I wont even bother with CX/MPO), given that OP WILL have lounge at HKG if all fails anyways and it is unlikely he'll have much to do before a 1300 flight.
I would assume (by experience) KA staff will see notes when you tell them you're in F and they see otherwise, they would then do something to your favour.

You are right, I mistyped and should have written "at HKG".
But that does not change the technical fact that the pax will have a non-changeable J ticket issued by IB. He will not have a F ticket unless IB does a really sloppy job.
CX/KA has communicated to IB (all electronic of course) that there is no F on that flight and offered the choice to book a J seat instead, which has been accepted by IB system.
Sure, the OP could get to HKG several hours earlier and try to be moved to another flight with his award ticket in J. He might get a very nice agent to do it, assuming the agent can see the booking history. The OP could also try to get access to the F lounge (i strongly doubt it). But is it worth the hassle unless the booked flight is heavily delayed and then it will be worth the effort.

If the OP prefer to get another flight, I think that the best option is to call IB and ask for a change without fee. And the miles credit should be automatic, but I am not familiar with IB systems.

im not gonna argue eitherway, but by experience i believe CX/KA would have the senses to fix it at the airport... which is easier than getting IB to do anything if at all.

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback. I guess the way to go about it is just to show up at the airport earlier on the day and pretend I never received the email about the change of class of service?

And let them handle that from there? And try to ask for an earlier flight?

Thanks!

I actually don't think this is a good strategy at all. A number of the posters above I don't think are reading exactly what you want and responding in a way that isn't really related to your query. (Not referring to kaka, whose response makes sense... although I still don't think it will work)

You want FIRST right? The problem is you've been reissued in a lower class. Sure, you can almost certainly move to an earlier flight in BUSINESS when you show up at the airport. That's what many posters are "correctly" saying but I don't think those answers are relevant to your desire, no?

If you want to go to First, KA is just going to tell you...sorry you were reissued, IB has already been refunded. And take it up with Iberia. KA isn't going to let you fly First if they've only received business class reimbursement from IB, which I'm almost certain is what has already happened with your reissue in J.

it's not like KA is changing the game on your a day or two before. The big problem for you is over a month away! The ticket is being reissued here! KA, on the back end is refunding IB the difference. This isn't a last minute change. You're a J passenger now.

If I've misread, and you just want to know can you go earlier in J, yea almost certainly if there is availability they'll let you on. Although if waiting lists get crowded they do it by MPC elite status. Usually it doesn't except in irrops.
