No use having a nice product on one or two planes and absolute junk everywhere else.
People knock Cathay cost cutting with good reason, but don't forget it's an airline that operates just three aircraft types. If you fly them you know exactly what you are getting. There is a long haul business seat, and a short haul business seat. That's it. The flights are always good to excellent and the service is always pretty much the same. If you fly often that consistency is worth its weight in gold.

that's true, but given how CX effectively schedules planes with these configurations widely across the regional network, booking that and getting an equipment change gives a bad taste, especially for travellers new to CX (as was myself last year, having jump-ship from another airline). A bonus will always be appreciated unless taken away ... makes for some very horrible red-eyes though
