Why are economy fares (MEL-ICN) more expensive than business fares?

Hi,

Trying to get some quotes for MEL-ICN-MEL (via HKG both ways) for April 2019 with around a week in Seoul and am getting silly prices from CX website, business around AUD 4100 with economy around AUD 9100.

Does anyone know why they have this type of pricing?

Cheers!

Appears that the Economy fare is booking into a very high fare class thus it is very expensive, while there are still some cheap lower fare class available in Business (something like I, D). Happens all the time

It’s up to you to decide if the premium for Y is worth the price difference

I believe that's probably the case. Prices for departure in late March are much more reasonable. Maybe they haven't got round to putting up the specials yet.

Whilst there are certain features of the Y cabin which I find to be of a more premium quality than those which are normally found in the J cabin (don’t think it’s a good idea to go into depth discussing these features on a forum of this nature), I don’t think the delta is worth the extra 4k AUD.

Cheers!

Well it still doesn't make sense, you can book 10 tickets at A$900 and only use one and it will still be cheaper than A$9000.

Happens frequently on far dated flights. CX seem to upload fares in blocks, obviously the economy fares for April 2019 have not yet been done.

The AUD$900 ones are for departures up to end March, whilst the AUD$9000 ones are for departures from April.

That's what I thought too, will be checking regularly to see if they get updated when this current round of offers expires (which requires ticketing by 30/6/2018).
