Questions on upgrade and then downgrade

Has anyone encountered before upgrade and then downgrade?

It happens on my mom today (non-status), so my status is unrelated here. I booked her ticket for a short flight, select her seat in the front part of the aircraft and check her in.

Everything settled and she headed to the airport and was offered an upgrade to business class on counter (this is unexpected as she's just an AM member and she was told this was a full flight). Later on she was downgraded again to economy and to the very back of the aircraft......she's fine on economy but just dont want to walk to the rear of the aircraft..

While I do understand it is absolutely OK to change seat due to operation reason, has anyone ever encountered anything like this weird(?) arrangement? My mom apparently was very happy then very disappointed when this happen LOL....

It happened to me once, but not from CX.

FWIW - because CX's policy is not clear on this, it is unlikely that your mom can make a complaint out of this.

Bottom line - she gets what is paid for.

But I get the feeling.

Yeah she got what she paid for. It's a short flight she should be okay on whatever class anyways but I can imagine she must feel very terrible when they told her you are sent back to the back and then realise it is indeed very back

Funny thing is it actually almost happened on me before. I did a very last minute change to a flight due to typhoon and rush to the airport. When I arrived the counter it was almost T-40 minutes. I saw them print out the J boarding pass already but just before they handed that to me, the supervisor whispered to the staff say the boarding gate already give the seat to other people because i haven't checked in. Can't complain anything as technically they haven't handed me the boarding pass and i was very grateful when they managed to get me out before typhoon arrived.
