Your initial understanding was not correct. Their plan has been to go 10 abreast on the 77Ws too for some time now.

Yes... And the first 10-abreast is a 77G (B-KPY), now call 77K

But since no one complaint about the seat width of 359 (I tried 359 Y once in seat E but feels really narrow to me... btw my BMI is well within the "normal" range) CX considers this a green light for them to go to "slim down" the size of their seat...

BTW new seat map for 10 abreast 77G = 77K is out...

CX announced an additional .3 inch in armrest space, I'm curious as to why they didn't just add that to the seat width instead?

Wow. 7mm. The thickness of an iPhone. CX being super generous.

Actually the increased armrest width will eat into your already reduced seat width. Nothing to be happy about.

B-KPY is boarding now for Nagoya. First flight since reconfigure to 77K. Will be interesting to hear anecdotes and confirmation if the new 350 IFE is fitted in all cabins.

Flight CX532 from Hong Kong to Nagoya https://fr24.com/CPA532/11062dbb

I didn't capture the seat map for CX532, but I can still capture the seat map for tomorrow's CX533 inbound.

Did anyone rush to book (9rush) the 73K inaugural?
Did CX invite any travel website/blogger such as @djsflynn or Lucky for this?

I asked people to treat this as an inaugural

I confess to having not read every post in this thread's 40 pages so I apologize in advance if this has already been covered -

Does anyone know of a rollout schedule for the 10 abreast 777 please? I am flying 807/806 ORD-HKG-BKK-HKG-ORD over thanksgiving. I have OWE so I got free exit seats on all sectors but as I don't do 10 abreast 777s, I may have to cancel the ticket. (That and ANA are doing a nice J promotion JFK-NRT/HND-KUL).

Thanks,

Thanks,

Impossible to know.

First, right now only the 77K is flying....this is the former 77G config, aka no F, aka not the plane that flies ORD (that's 77H, with F). So what this means is 77K is only going to appear on routes where 77G was present. (See the link at bottom to make better sense of this)

But, presumably 77H reconfigurations are coming soon, too. And that reconfigured 77H will be flying to ORD. The problem is we don't know when those planes will be coming out of the shop.

ONCE the planes come out of the shop, we don't exactly know how CX will roster them. For example, normally there is no special rotation for CX birds. Aka, if you have a 77H-specific flight you could get any bird in the 77H sub fleet. This has mattered from time to time because of refurbishments: years back an F class refresh, and recently a new IFE and very very minor F class refresh. You could not and cannot predict which flight will get the refreshed vs non refreshed birds. Basically that refreshed 77H could go to JFK, ORD, LHR, FRA, SFO, or any of the other flight numbers scheduled for 77H service. Edit later: It seems like CX won't be rostering these birds in a special manner based on G-CIVG's post below. Meaning, what I describe above in this paragraph is most likely - you won't be able to predict it as long as the reconfigs are still ongoing. So with your flight to/from ORD over Thanksgiving, you will not be able to know, period.

But, this is a little different. Given the seat count difference, maybe CX will indeed start specifically rostering it on certain routes because they can sell additional seats. But the downside to that is it will create some increased operational problems until the whole fleet is reconfigured. Unfortunately we don't know yet. Come back in a few months and we might have more clarity. (Or others might already). Thanksgiving is a while away.

In the meantime follow this sheet below of ours: we maintain it with all the CX and KA configs and update it at least once a week or more. AFAIK it's the most accurate public source of CX fleet, route, config etc info.

I have heard (but I can't confirm with 100% certainty) that the no port will be 'pegged' with the 77J/77K configurations until the vast majority of refitting is complete.

But by no means is CX keeping the current single frame on regionals only. In fact, it's already been rostered on long haul rotations before the end of this month.

It's going to be a big operational problem, seat reservation-wise. The best way to avoid this is to fly these reconfigured birds on specific routes.

Good point. Will the selling inventory be limited to lower density until there’s enough frames to “guarantee” high density on particular routes?

I'd bet this scenario could lead to greater op-ups for the next 6-12 months as these new birds get reconfigured. I'd bet eventually, CX might start betting on the increased capacity and overselling Y a little bit more, especially to places like LAX and JFK where they have multiple frequencies of the same bird type each day. Going to be interesting.....

Some more photos of the new seats and how snug they are in the real world

Was on B-KPY to Nagoya on April 13 - and from gathering of the above posts, seems it was the first 777-300ER refitted with 10 abreast.

Thoughts:
I was seated in Economy window seat with two companions; the seat itself is a major improvement: despite being slimmer than before, they finally got the lumbar padding right and it's the first time i've never needed to ask for a pillow to put on my lower back.

The aisles are definitely noticeable narrower, and my companion sitting on the aisle seat noticed much more people bumping into the chairs. The cabin is noticeably much more cramp.

Strangely - Premium economy was not updated to the current ones on the A350 aircraft. However, I flew the A350 on PE (new) a day before from London and was on a 777-300ER PE back from Nagoya when I came back. Would agree that the new Premium Economy seat is not an improvement beyond the IFE.
