Your wife is not permitted on the departures side. She lacks a same day boarding pass. Thus, not possible.
You can do it alone, but as stated above the practice is being cracked down on. People have reported 30+ minute waits to get taken back out from the departure lounge to arrivals area.
Fwiw, I have confirmation from HKIA that they have intentionally slowed the process because people aren't supposed to be doing this. Although it is very hard to prove people don't have a legitimate reason.
However, this isn't even an option for your wife.

I think there is a pay on entry Plaza Premium arraivals lounge landside.
Also depending on your hotel they may allow early check in or allow you to use the spa/showers to freshen up ( I was suprised and delighted to be checked in at 9am at the Conrad a few years ago)

Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:
- First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).

The practice of using the lounge on a same day transfer is "being cracked down on " and "people aren't supposed to be doing this" ??
So you buy a first class ticket on Cathay that goes through their HKG hub and has a same day later connecting flight and what exactly are you supposed to do? Go sit by the curb for a few hours? What am I missing?

What I understand is being complained about is on a long transfer using the lounge straight after arrival then asking to go back landside from being airside which involves being escorted to immigration only to come back later.
The standard transfers of remaining in the lounges for the whole duration of the transfer or going landside straight after arriving , then coming back later prior to the departure of the flight is perfectly fine.

Otherwise I'm confused by what you're talking about.
if you read your post I'm responding to, the question is about using the airside F lounge, then leaving the airport, and then returning.
Your wife can't go into the airside departures area because she doesn't have a same day BP. You can, as I said. What's being "cracked down upon" is the practice of entering airside and then LEAVING airside. You have no problem with a simple transit and just sitting airside.
Of course you can use the F lounge. I'm not sure where you get the impression that isn't allowed. I don't know how else to say it, it's all there in my post!

Ha, you're missing almost the entire thrust of what's being responded to in this post!

If I buy her a ticket with me to HAN (just finishing a mileage run) will she be able to check in for that flight back in the US at the beginning of the journey? She would have a SFO-HKG-CHC ticket with a HKG-HAN HKG tickets that fall during her original stopover in HKG. If not then she would have to exit in HKG and then come back in on the HKG-HAN-HKG ticket? Yikes.
Thanks for your help and sorry for the confusion. I'm dealing with a recent brain injury and stuff that was simple before can trip me up on certain bad days.

My wife and I have an upcoming trip in F on AA 125 (DFW-HKG) arriving into HKG at 16:10 and departing the next day in J on CX 785 (HKG-DPS) departing at 10:05. Based on the earlier discussion it appears that this falls under the same "airport day" and we should have access to the F lounges the morning of our CX 785 departure. Can anyone confirm this and does it matter if our arriving F flight is on AA metal?
Cheers!

It is not the same airport day. The end of the airport lounge day is when the lounges close after your arrival so that will be approximately at 2am which is before your departure of CX 785.

You can also just apply common sense to understand the rules easier. Say you're landing Monday afternoon. You're leaving Tuesday mid morning. Not in anybody's definition is this the same day! The reason the "airport day" is in place is also for common sense reasons...CX has a bunch of 00;30, 01:00, 01:30 type departures. It would be really silly to hold a rope at the entrance and not let those passengers in until midnight. Essentially all the rule does is grant entrance a few hours into the next calendar day in the wee morning hours, so the midnight departing passengers don't get caught up in a stupid technicality at midnight. Aka you check in at 23:00 for a 01:00 departure to Europe. The airport day definition ensures these pax can use the lounge, that's all.
However, landing on AA F would grant you access if you were flying out the same day, due to both AA and CX being in OneWorld.
I recommend using the Pier J, it is huge, excellent and frankly where I spend a bit of my time anyway, even though I have access to F.
