@percysmith
Thanks for another completed year of excellent guruship on this stuff!
The link that you gave previously to the HongKongCard forum for those of us also interested in cash rebates (i.e. https://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/f...ow.php?id=4979 ) is giving some sort of error message. Sadly I (still) don't read Chinese, but your excellent summary was in English. Is it at a new address?

Promos Changed/Discontinued into 2018

Looks like the BoC iCard 10X Reward Gift Points promo for up to $1,111 in monthly online + contactless spending has been renewed for 2018 (although I can't find any reference to it on the BoC home page): http://www.boci.com.hk/pdf/eng/card/icard_10x.TnC.pdf
But the T&C seems to have changed slightly so that they no longer appear to cover non-contactless spending in supermarkets (which I seem to recall was covered last year).

No sign yet that the Stan Chart CUP 12X Rewards Points promo for $5,000 monthly spending in supermarkets has been renewed. The offer page still refers to this promo ending on 31 Dec 2017: https://www.sc.com/hk/promotion/credit-cards/unionpay-12x-reward-points/

Any other promos we should be aware of that have been changed/discontinued as of Jan 1?

Thanks percysmith. Judging by the TnC, Online transactions but charging HKD still earn 5.6% (Online 2.4% + Overseas 2% + VS 1.2%). Is that correct?

My reading (if the HKD charge is a local charge) is that you only get
3.6% (i.e. Online 2.4% + VS 1.2%)

Not sure if this is also new, T&C says in Clause 6 technically rules out say buying AAPL Gift Cards (but how they police that I do not know).

"Whether a transaction is an Eligible Transaction shall be determined at the sole and absolute discretion of the Bank. Transactions settled via HSBC Internet Banking, purchase and/or reload of stored value cards or e-wallets, Octopus automatic add-value transactions, transactions made to redeem items under "RewardCash e-shop" and other programmes, any online transactions made with the merchants of the "Red Hot Flash Special" promotions during their respective promotional periods of such promotions (as specified by the Bank under the "Red Hot Flash Special" promotions from time to time to be excluded from this promotion), any other online promotions as may be launched from time to time, other transactions including but not limited to cash advances, annual fees, finance charges, late charges, mail, fax and telephone orders, instalment plans, transactions at non-financial institutions (including purchase of foreign currency, money orders and travellers cheques), transactions at financial institutions (including purchase of merchandise and services from banks), wire transfers, betting and gambling transactions, tax payments, autopay and recurring transactions and unposted/ cancelled/ refunded transactions will not qualify as Eligible Transactions for this promotion and will not count towards the Spending Requirement.

if and only if you're overseas 6X and charging online from *overseas* (hkd or foreign currency)

percysmith Jan 1, 2018 11:07 pm

@ermen that is an anti-P2P (Payme/WeChat Pay/Alipay P2P) clause. It does not apply to Apple Online Store because of different coding.

Hi. I could you some advise from many of the experts here
I am currently using SCB AM. BA Dah Sing & Citi PM for AAVS reload (OEpay).
Citi PM is only a $250 reload so I was considering switching this to HSBC.
Do they offer RC (Convertible to miles) for AAVS reloads? If so which is the best card to use?
THX

HSBC do but conversion rate is bad (HK$25/AM for basic? Don't even think that the VS qualifies for the 3x extra spend for AAVS)
Bankcommp CUP is the way to go on this (HK$6/AM)

Can someone kindly explain?
