Thank you Percy, called Citi again and they found the promo. I qualified but somehow did not get the cash rebate, so they will fix.

Had the same issue with another promo - I signed up after receiving an SMS, but the link expired a few months later and no CS agents could find the promo. Eventually got the cash rebate around the date listed on the original T&C. Wish Citi would send a confirmation email after sign up!!

My advice is to write down some details of each promo you sign up. Citi is worse in that it doesn't provide a registration number, but other banks forget to provide rewards/points on time too. Bank Comm did not give me points for a promo, and I had to call them to remind them - and they gave me the points on the following month's statement.

Do it on a computer and save the registration page and response as a PDF on Chrome. Let them argue with Chrome's timestamp.

Because your selected ROYC category is a subset of all ROYC categories, your VS is guaranteed to be exhausted before your selected category will be.
Now I am confused...

What is normal in Hong Kong, but weird in other places?

Answered 7d ago
Reselling of things. And senseless greediness.

Let me explain.

HK people are well known for wanting to make a quick buck when the opportunity arises. Here are some self-explanatory examples:

There used to be a time difference of weeks between the launching dates of new Apple iPhones in Hong Kong and China. This created an opportunity for the HK people to buy iPhones in HK and sell them at a premium in China. When the iPhone 6 was launched people queued up for a week outside the Apple shop to buy the iPhone and immediately they would resell them to dealers at a premium of 30-50%, and the dealers then sold them in China for a 100–150% premium. People made thousands of HK dollars then. At that time even one's position in the queue was changing hands at HK$500 (USD60). This practice was quashed when Apple eventually decided to launch the latest iPhones on the same day in Hong Kong and China.

Chinese festive Mooncakes - yes, ordinary moon cakes. This year hundreds of people queued up for two days to buy mooncake coupons - which could be exchanged for boxes of mooncakes later - hoping to resell them at a premium. The price for a box of Mooncakes later went from HKD250 (USD30) to HKD1200 (usd150) in the first couple of days. Of course, the prices went back down when people realised that there are plenty of coupons available for sale.

Another popular thing in HK that I haven't seen much in the UK is the senseless greed for freebies or massively discounted things.

McDonald's has been offering popular items at huge discount this month in HK. Yesterday it was HKD10 (USD 1.3) for a box of nine McNuggets. I walked by a McDonald's and saw a huge queue of people wanting to buy McNuggets. One person bought 12 boxes of McNuggets - ie. 108 pieces. I couldn't help it and asked him how many people were the McNuggets for, and he said they're for him and his wife. I asked him whether they'd finish them and he said probably not. So why you bought them? “They're cheap” was the answer. Today it was HK$10 for two hamburgers. I saw an old lady buying 30 burgers…

A while ago Durex was giving out free condoms when they launched the Durex Air in Hong Kong. There was, again, a huge queue of people waiting to grab the freebies. What was interesting was the fact that most of those queueing up were grannies and grandpa's of an average age of over 70… Enough said.

These sort of things are so common that HK people barely noticed them when they happened, but yet would be quite an eye opener for Westerners.

weird went to broadway yesterday and tried to pay 2 x 10,000 using seperate cards on my android pay.

manager and cashier wouldnt let me! saying its split payment and not allowed.

only can buy 1 x 10000 and be done... weird.

so ended up having to go on 2 separate days or 2 seperate stores or 2 separate phones!

Maybe the Broadway cashier is a new joiner from Apple (i.e. ex-Smurf)

I have an equally long list of internal memo rules from Apple HK as I do from AM/MPO.

Goodness. You should try Watson hunt/Parknshop coupon hunt 2011-14

Fortress is still relatively hard. Definitely harder than Broadway anyway.

Your nearest Broadway shop may run ouf of coupon, but definitely not the next nearest shop. MTR ride please.
