For the BEA promo, what is the easiest/cheapest way to meet the mobile payment requirement if supermarkets and department stores are excluded?

That clearly says to me that it counted as nothing (i.e. 0.4%). I put lots of stuff on my Visa Sig so I have been finding it hard to disaggregate, but a few weeks ago I came to the conclusion that USelect was not in any category and hence only 0.4%, so I've moved my spend there to another card (in my case Citi PM @ 1% because I can't be bothered with getting another card).
Frankly the fact that so many things there are 10-30% cheaper than Wellcome/P&S far outweighs any kickback calculations.

@GwailoSIN @christep: Oh wow

Well, there's also BoC i-Card (pay it as Paywave, $1.5/AM) and Citi Rewards ($3/mile) to think about

Thanks, but are either of them easy to extract as cashback? And without minimum spend requirements? And with no income requirements (I'm retired)?

BoC: In coupon https://forum.hongkongcard.com/forumSE/show/4979
No, just max
Would help if you already have a BoC card. Or a sizeable deposit there.

BEA to stop points earning from bill payment wef 1 May 18

https://www.hkbea.com/pdf/en/noa_201802_cc.pdf
https://forum.hongkongcard.com/forumSE/show/24025

Also AAVS earning capped at 10k points/month

---

Before you ask, next best card to use is CCB Premier Visa Infinite or CCB Diamond Prestige @ $8/AM except tax (1 point per $1 paid, but those cards' points convert at 8 points per AM instead of 15 points for other CCB Platinum V/MC/CUP)

CCB Premier Visa Infinite and CCB Diamond Prestige can be applied for by CCB Premier Banking customers. You can be a CCB Premier Banking customer if you deposit $1 million with them.
I am also aware CCB invited certain Platinum cardholders to apply/upgrade for CCB Diamond Prestige last year without need for banking relationship. But not all Diamond Prestige upgraders can turn their points into miles (some were forced into cash rebate)

Percy, what does the AAVS cap of 10k points per month mean? I know we get $8/AM today...

I'm wondering whether BEA Flyer World's status as the sole beginner's card has to be reconsidered.

My original rationale for putting it there was it earned some miles for everything. Well it still does, broadly speaking, but bill payment is a gaping hole that no entry-level card now covers (I won't call CCB Plat/VI or HSBC entry-level cards)

I would argue that the BEA Flyer World is still a solid beginner's card. Sure, bill payment is now a gaping hole (for everyone), but for everything else, it still is an easy one-stop-shop type of card.

But on the bill payment front, I noticed the wiki lists the HSBC cards as giving 1AM=$25 but it says until 31 Dec 2017 - I assume this should be updated to 2018? Absent getting a new card just for bill payment, I'm inclined to just fall back to the HSBC card.

Do you know if the CLP autopay for BEA at $5/AM will remain in effect, even after the BEA change to no miles for bill payments?

Travel:
Month max: $6,756

Excluded: overseas online/phone/mail, local retail and online supermarkets/department stores/travel agencies/Taobao.com and Tmall.
Do the local retail and travel stack? i.e. 8445 per month to max out both?

Just to make sure my understanding is correct, it would be $1689 in restaurants/7-11/etc. on Sundays + $6756 while abroad (in any overseas retail category - i.e. food, hotel, etc.)?
