Cathay Pacific with connecting flight

An odd question: we are planning a trip to Hong Kong from the USA in March, and were looking at using Cathay Pacific after hearing good things.

The flight we're looking at has a connecting flight from our home city to O'Hare, and then from O'Hare to HKG on Cathay Pacific. The first flight between our home and O'Hare is on an American Airlines plane.

My question is: because the first leg of our trip is on AA, can we use our TSA Pre-check credentials? Cathay Pacific doesn't have an option to enter a Known Traveler ID. Is it a situation where we just have to have AA reprint our boarding pass for the first flight with our Known Traveler IDs when we reach the airport?

Thank you for any insight you can provide.

Not sure this should be in the HK forum but welcome to Flyertalk. If you are flying AA into ORD, you should be able to check your baggage all the way to HK and AA should be able to issue you boarding passes all the way to HK.

Unfortunately AA flies into Terminal 3 and Cathay is out of Terminal 5 so you will need to go thru security again. Cathay isn't part of TSA pre-check so you will probably have to go thru the normal queue when you get to Terminal 5.

Yes, you can ask the agent at your home airport to add your KTN so it shows pre check on it. Unfortunately there is no pre check at O'hare T5 from which Cathay operates out of, but apparently there's been an airside transfer link set up between T3 and t5 so you may not have to reclear security after all.

How about bad things?

FWIW - I believe this is worth some attentions, as not many pax are used to how CX mishandle.

It is available in non-winter months only per ORD's website.

March? Should be available if no snow.
