Does it indicate anything if I get an email that says I'm eligible for an upgrade? Does it mean the flight is overbooked in my travel class? I'm booked on FRA - HKG in Eco, but on the seat map on expertflyer, Business and PE are pretty full so I'm surprised they offer the upgrade bid to me...

Having left booking too late for our budget, I've recently booked our family of 4 SYD-HKG-BOS in PY, and return in J.

Has anyone been offered bid for upgrade for a family group booking. If offered, I'll happily bid for the HKG-BOS sector - I know the SYD-HKG sector is unlikely.

Data point:

Booked SIN-HKG-LHR in R and just received an email with an invitation to upgrade to business:

SIN-HKG: Min bid SGD700, max.SGD1,565
HKG-LHR: Min. bid SGD1,340, mx. SGD3,255

I think I'll pass!

Upgrade bid should really be renamed Fare difference upgrade mechanism.

Just wondering after the upgrade bid from Y to PE, has anyone had the experience of getting an OP up again at the airport from PE to J? Or is it regarded as "one class" UG given already?

Not sure what fare class an upgrade bid ticket for PEY would be, I'm assuming its E class. It is certainly possible to get an op-up after an upgrade redemption but don't get your hopes up. Standard disclaimer -- op-ups are load and route dependent and while the biggest factor seems to be MPC/OW status, it's not known for sure what other factors may affect chances.

Did you have a successful upgrade bid? We need some data points for this whole upgrade bid thing.

Thanks for the update!

But arrggh that's a bad price! I mean, have you looked at what it would've been just to upgrade your base fare class to J? $200 USD one-way price difference from PEY-J on a 2 hour flight sounds like a pretty bad deal to me.

Yeah, unfortunately, J fare was priced $573 USD more than PE. I'm sure it would have been lower if I had booked several weeks ago.

This is complete madness!! Lol who is doing this? I mean full fare J on the route can't be more than what, 1.5-2k USD? Paying $500 USD for a one way upgrade for PEY-J seems like absolute stupidity!

Minimum bid for C from PE for my LHR-HKG flight starts at 1610 USD... Is there a chance the minimum bid will drop lower (as with some airlines)? Thanks

I don't think so, and I have always found even the minimum amount to be absurd.
