Now I'm confused. Are you saying we can allocate Overseas category to the primary VS and Dining category to the supplementary VS and get the 2.78 earn rate for both?

How about if my wife is overseas with her Dining-allocated card, or if I am dining with my Overseas-allocated card?

Or are you saying she should be applying for a primary VS of her own, and pick the Dining category for that?

You allocate to the person, not the card.
If you allocate 6x overseas to principal VS (yourself)
And you allocate 6x dining to additional VS (wife)
You earn $2.78/AM overseas, $100k for 2018
Wife earn $2.78/AM dining, $100k for 2018

$2.77/AM --> $6.25/AM. Try not to.
(The overseas 6x holder can bear more card-not-present transactions e.g. online bookings with overseas merchants).

[QUOTE=percysmith;29094807]Category is applicable to all cards held by cardholder. You can't card sea your way into multiple categories

Yes, even if DCCed

All cards held by cardholder. I earn no RC thru my supp Premier MC, focus on VS.
Percy - I checked with HSBC earlier and CS advised it must be overseas currency. Can you confirm DCC still works as I spend quite a fair bit online but they charge HKD?

Upon reaching the $100k spend (this limit doesn't reset each month, correct?), does it then revert to $6.25/AM or is it still worth using the VS for dining at that stage? I assume any overseas spend would be moved to Citi PM upon reaching the $100k limit.

yes $100k pa.
yes once its maxed out not worth putting on VS.
Would use the scb am card for dining afterwards for simplicty (for me i put it on citi prestige - kinda works out assuming i can get avios with a 30pc bonus + a small loyalty bonus every year)

Next year im putting me and my wife's hsbc rc on home. Buy 100k of coupon during CNY and be done with it

Targeted offer and lots of add-ons
But the most basic iteration is spend $12,800, get 75,000 + 12,800 point = 87,800 points --> 5,853 miles per phase ($2.19/AM)

Improvements include extra 2x for overseas or travel agent, extra 2x for non-eye online (but that'll reduce your overall earn cap under this 939 promo) (5x for eye online, without reduction of overall cap), extra 2x for dining on Tiramisu/Tastie, 87.5% improvement of all earns for CCB VI and Prestige Diamond.

Most extreme case: spending $10,300 on online spending with a CCB VI, maximising the 2x online non-eye promo (but taking the maximum spend from $12,800 to $10,300) yields 10,662.5 AM --> $0.966/AM.

Plus there's no min spend and reasonably high max spends so it's good for those of us not eating >=$400 a meal (as with Bankcomm).
I am quite new to Eye card. Would this promotion use 5x bonus points because each year the max cap is 300k (which is not a lot for online transactions)

CS is frequently confused

For Rewards of your choice 6X (renewed to 31 Dec 18), only merchant location counts.

For 15k extra 5x (also 6X) overseas and online (ending 31 Dec 17), must be overseas location and foreign currency.

You will earn it with 939 points simultaneously without reduction in 939 maximum points that can be earned

(unlike other Plat cards where what you earn in online extra 2x will reduce what you can maximum earn in 939)

Thanks Percy so the quarterly overseas and online will end this year? I was contemplating to switch from Dining to Overseas (but I don't have SCB AM) but not sure if it is worthwhile if the quarterly promotion will continue or not

You should definitely get the SCB AM then, if not for the juicy welcome offer which you could easily knock out on Apple at the moment. If you're worried about the "expat unfriendly approval" further upthread that I also fell victim to when the card first came out, do not. I applied again in August this year and was approved in no time.

This will be replacing HSBC VS as my dining card next year although I do realize there may be even better ones but I feel like 17 cards are enough for me to manage so this keeps it simple.

Doing some planning for 2018...

I spend quite a bit each year on plane tickets. I know of three cards that help me earn better than HK$4/AM: 1) CCB Eye ($2.14/AM if online up to $50K), 2) HSBC ($2.78/AM if I put 5X on leisure up to $100K) and 3) AE Platinum ($3.75/AM up to $160K). Did I miss any?

Thanks!

Wow 17 cards...I only plan to have 4 cards. Currently I have BEA Flyer, HSBC VS, Citi PM and contemplating about CCB Eye or SCB AM. Maybe I should get both?

Isn't AMEX CX Elite better than Plat? I think you get $3/AM with no annual fee
